Is the ACC a cash cow for ESPN?

I propose that it is.
Being the most profitable doesn’t require having the highest television rankings and fan interest if the expenses are among the lowest.

Which would you rather have: a $10,000 savings account drawing 5% interest or a $50,000,000 savings account drawing 1.5% interest?

I don’t think so. After FSU filed suit we learned that the ESPN/ACC tv contract only goes til 2027. ESPN had an option to extend that contract, but didn’t by the original deadline so the ACC Commissioner gave them more time to make their decision. I would imagine if ESPN viewed it as a cash cow that extension would be done by now.

Ever heard of 2035-2036

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You misunderstand the terms 2036 only holds the ACC to the terms

ESPN has a choice starting in 2027 to re-up the ACC network terms or not. They have an out on that piece, but the ACC is still stuck granting their media rights to ESPN for the bargain price they negotiated years ago. In other words, it is an even worse deal for the ACC than even originally thought.

Thanks for nothin Swofford! 😡

This is correct. The ACC Network is part of the deal and it is a money loser.

We are probably a strong cash cow...maybe all this posturing with the SEC and the big whatever and the horse eaters may be trying to figure out all these changes and expensive former student athletes that are collapsing their former domain! Some of the schools will not even survive much less thrive...wanna bet that Lil Ole CCC is looking better every day...our student athletes still see value coming to `these special hills` and until others uncover value other than payola they will still struggle to keep itinerant athletes around! Thank God for Dabo and his dream!
