It is beginning to seem like the Braves left their winning

ways in the locker room at the All-Star Game. This has happened to many teams over the years, and it is just sad to see.

Now, don't get me wrong, I fully expect the Braves to bounce back, and win the division, and easily make post season. Butt, that roll that they were on before the break has certainly been stopped. Sometimes, it only takes one "thrown away" game like they recently had in the Rosario "Hamstring" game to turn things the wrong way.

Maybe Cerrano needs to lend them Jobu, just until they get this thing uncorked again in the second half.

:)

The AS break killed their momentum.***

I personally believe that d'Arnaud should be the permanent DH instead of Ozuna. Ozuna is extremely streaky and I never have a good feeling when he is up to bat.

Agreed, Ozuna to me is almost a wasted roster spot.

He CERTAINLY is not a consistent enough bat to warrant being the everyday DH.

The problem with Ozuna...

is that he has a HUGE contract (he's owed around $40 million through 2024).

I imagine Alex Anthopoulos has explored trading Ozuna, but that was probably next to impossible unless the Braves agreed to eat most of the money or included some top-notch prospects. So, it makes sense why Anthopoulos decided to ride it out with Ozuna, even if it meant bad publicity. Before the season, I understood the logic in hanging on to Ozuna and giving him another chance. The Braves didn’t seem to have enough starting-caliber outfielders and DH options, but that’s not the case anymore.

Of course, it’s not really a matter of the Braves wanting to trade him. I’m almost positive they would love to do so. It’s more about finding another team willing to take on his contract. There’s no reason another team would be interested in acquiring him unless the Braves attach one of their best prospects and/or agree to eat most of the money themselves, which is something they may be prepared to do.

When you are relying on so many young pitchers to carry you that’s not usually a recipe for success. It worked in the first half but no guarantee it’s going to stick. That and the bullpen has not been very consistent all year. Offense is only going to take them so far if they can’t get the pitching sorted out.

the bullpen has been one of the best in baseball all year up to this point. In fact the teams ERA was MLB leading until after last night....and thats with two all star starting pitchers on IL. Its a long season, August is brutal for most every team especially in the NL east. I doubt we'll keep winning at the MLB best rate we have been but seriously doubt we will give up much ground.

You know what they say about stats…

I know what I’ve seen watching the games. That bullpen is a liability against average to good teams.

Iglesias is clearly NOT the answer at closer...

He's entirely too inconsistent.

The Braves need two things before the trade deadline: 1) shore-up the starting rotation until getting some pitchers back off the DL and 2) a solid consistent closer.

Last night was a total train wreck.

If you've been watching, the pitching injuries have hurt them and I still think they need to go get a legit lock down closer Minter and Iglasius ain't it.

and traded all three of them (Kenley Jansen, Craig Kimbrel and Mark Melancon (although MM has been injured for most of this season)).

They let Jansen and Melancon walk in free agency, they traded Kimbrel because they had to get out of that awful BJ Upton contract and didn’t need an elite closer during the rebuilding years. The bullpen situation will be addressed at the deadline, the two big named closers on the market won’t be cheap ether, Hader from SD would cost less because he would be a rental most likely, and Bednar from Pitt would cost more as he has a couple of years of control I believe. Barlow from KC is probably the more cheaper option if the Braves don’t want to trade away Grissom and a Dodd/Shuster just yet.

Most of our good relief pitching is on the shelf with injuries...
