Yesterday, there was a post on TNet arguing (ironically) that TNet posts had gone downhill from the posts in the 1990s. The poster argued that the posts of the 90s were particularly informative and/or particularly clever, funny/fun. The post even went so far as to ask if we TNetters were “embarrassed by what TNet has become.”

I was not on TNet in the 1990s, so I cannot speak to the posts of that time period. I do appreciate this poster’s opinion, but I would respectfully like to offer a different opinion. I found TNet in the early-mid 2000s because I enjoyed reading the articles. In other words: The insights as to what was happening in Clemson sports brought me to TNet.

At first I ignored the TNet posts. But, I soon started “lurking” without posting on the TNet posts because I saw posts that were informative. Posts in which people shared an opinion of interest – or a link to something happening in the world of collegiate sports in general and/or Clemson sports specifically. In other words: The informative posts are why I started reading the TNet posts.

I enjoyed reading the posts, but I was not ready to participate. After lurking for several years, I finally started posting on TNet in 2017. I started posting because I wanted to join in on the fun that I was seeing TNet posters having. I thought many posts on TNet were quite clever and quite fun. In other words: The fun of the TNet posting is why I started posting.

I still feel that I see all of that today. Absolutely, there are posts today that seem odd or puzzling. There are times I scratch my head wondering what a poster was trying to say – or even why the person even made a particular post at all. But, for every “puzzling” posts, there are many other posts that offer a lot.

I appreciate the opinions that I see on TNet – even if I don’t agree with them all (such as the one from yesterday wishing things were like the 1990s). For the most part, people agree/disagree with each other’s opinions in a respectful way on TNet compared to other social media forums/sites. Yes, there are times when TNetters get rude with those with whom they disagree. Yes, there are some trolls. All of those things are true about social media forums/sites in general. I don’t know how that could be avoided in today’s world. But most of the time, I find people on TNet to be reasonably civil and respectful.

And I love the humor and the overall fun I see on TNet. I have literally “Laughed Out Loud” at several posts on TNet. Whether it is a missing family possum, or an offer to escort Clemson fans safely through Columbia parking lots before the Palmetto Bowl, or a threat to change a post after someone has given it a Thumbs Up, I have laughed often while reading TNet. I hope others see the fun and humor that I see.

In regards to the fun here: I see fun when we congregate each morning to count down the days until Clemson football starts again. I enjoy celebrating a poster’s personal life such as family events, retirement timing, or memories of past Clemson events. I appreciate TNetters sharing their preferred bourbon, or what they eat for supper, or beautiful pictures of the sun setting around them. I love the fun I see here on TNet. I just hope others see as much fun as I do.

I appreciate the opinions that were expressed yesterday that TNet is not what it used to be in the 1990s. Maybe it is truly different now. Maybe not (I really can’t say). Either way, I really enjoy whatever TNet is now.

I enjoy the crazy, the 1.5%ers, the 98.5%ers, Brownell fans/Brownell haters

There is room for all, if you don't like then move on. You will be ok, do not be offended by others post on a message board.

TNET belongs in the "no trigger" zone, so stay calm lol

Go Tigers!!

Well said my friend. Get past the crazy and you will find good people on TNet.

If I was actually embarrassed by TNet then I would not visit the site. It is as simple as that, but please don’t share your embarrassment just move on. I believe most on here appreciate some real life talk and the state of current events. It does not have to be Clemson 24/7, when 23/7 will do.

I have been here since the 90s, and more than anything, that makes me old. I know that I have the choice to like it or leave it. To say message boards have changed a little in 25 years would be a major understatement. I have threatened to, or wanted to, leave many times, but I can’t give up the things about it that I still love.

I guess “get off of my lawn” is a losing position.

GO TIGERS!!

Maybe I am just the old guy screaming get off my lawn. I don't know. But I love Clemson with all my heart, always have and always will. But I think this website does not always portray us in the best light. That's all.

We do the best we can with moderation and some of the new systems we developed in the past few years, such as the warning system help keep real trolls out and the ignore feature. I'm not really familiar with other sites boards, but it's the same pool of fans. Maybe other boards are less tolerant of differing opinions, I really don't know. There will always be a small percentage of fans that are embarrassing. Most times I go to a home game, there are a few within earshot.

So I think TigerNet does portray Clemson correctly in that most folks on here are the awesome Clemson people you would find tailgating at games, but yes we do have those few drunk people at times that are not what you want others to see if they came on here.

We are always open to suggestions on how to improve the site, but I think it's much improved over the 90s version. If not, what have I been doing all these years ;) Nostalgia is a powerful emotion though. But the same folks are moderating now as did back in the 90s, almost 30 years ago now.

Thanks for your feedback and for listening!

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

It would not be a realistic expectation to think otherwise in an anonymous forum.

All good! As I mentioned in the original post, I appreciate your opinion - and I appreciate your sharing your opinion.

Since I have a different perspective, my post was only intended to provide that different perspective. I see a lot of fun/enjoyable things worth noting at TNet.

I first joined a Clemson focused board in the nid 90s. It seemed like a great place until some started getting really personal. After that happened the board began a quick descent from which it did not recover. I think this was the PSR site which is no longer operational. During its descent I was invited to join another board. It was great at first then the same thing happened and somehow I found this place. It has already held on longer than the previous two, but rude behavior and personal attacks were rising for a time. Hopefully we, as posters, can keep the threads more polite and fun and through this keep it a pleasant place for all. Overall this has been a great board with great regulars. Having said this, football, which is the primary driver here, isn't what it used to be. Remember when Bowden and, to a greater extent, Dabo would pull in those surprises on NLOI day? It got to be like Christmas morning... you'd figured out some of what you were likely getting but there was always that expectant hope of a big surprise or two under the tree. Football and recruiting are no longer seasonal, NLOI day is no longer a day filled with hope because recruiting is year round. We still get some excitement during summer camp to see who shows up and how they perform. We are also no longer a program on the rise...we've been at the top for awhile and began to slip a bit. We are trying to pull it back together, not rebuild from a 20 year death penalty imposed by the school. Returning to underdog status isn't nearly as much fun as getting away from it. Lots of things contribute to football being different.

I do hope this board will continue to be a pleasant place to check in on personalities, developments in the program and also a place for food natured humor. I have all hope it will.
