Brownell can probably manage to get into 80-team NCAAT more often than not. But probably not "almost every year".

It should be 128 - it's 1 extra game for those not already in the play-in

There are 362 basketball teams. That's not watered down like football bowl games where 1/2 the teams get an invite. The metrics are failing badly at identifying the teams and conference strength. The only way to fix that is to expand.

Football is not watered down. It's been 4 teams, out of ~130. Now it's 12.

The other bowl games are exhibitions...they do not present an opportunity to win a title. They are essentially the NIT.
