Was hopeful but honestly never saw this coming.

Was hopeful when Monte was hired and at the time thought it was a great hire with a lot of potential. Every season left only hope for what might happen next year. Starting last year 14-0 it seemed he’d turned the program around only to limp into the ACC Tournament and get an early exit. It was time for a change! (Mirror image of basketball program)
Fast forward to this year. Based merely on his success at a cold northern state, I was super excited about Coach Bakich getting hired. I honestly thought it would take a couple years to get his program going. 4 -5 weeks into the season and things appeared to be mediocre at best.
Then all of a sudden this team starting piecing together win after win and series after series in a calm, cool and collective manner. This team just collectively looks very poised! I was hopeful but never saw 40 wins and the real potential to host coming -this year!
Go Tigers!

I will admit that I was skeptical earlier in the season when we were struggling that maybe he was wrong choice. Here is my apology, I was wrong!!

Looks like it took the first half of the season to completely flush Monte from the system.***

Monte got caught up with launch angel and hitting homers IMO. His teams had the worst approach at the plate. Way to many strikeouts. I can't remember which player it was for Clemson last night who had a 13 pitch at bat. You never saw much of that from previous teams. Go Tigers.

I watched ML a lot at CofC and like you, was really excited about the hire. The thing I could never figure was that ML's teams at CofC resembled this year's Clemson team more than any of his actual Clemson teams. His CoC teams were gritty and very hard outs. They played hardnose old school fundamental baseball. When he got to Clemson. it seemed as though his total coaching philosophy changed. In regard to Bakich, I was a believer from day one, but I figured 2-3 yrs to get rolling. This team has bought in and is playing great baseball waaaay sooner than I thought they would be. Furthermore, this team is relatively young. Barring a mass roster turnover to the draft this team should be better on paper going into next year. Although we will have a bullseye on our back, the potential for this team next year is a scary thought.

Not going to lie, early in the season I wondered if this team could reach 30 wins. The hitting was struggling and the pitching a mess with key injuries. I never doubted the hire of Bakich and his hire of Bellanger and bringing in #7 for mentoring, but it just seemed like Lee had left the cupboard bare. You knew there was talent but unwinding the previous coaching would take more time. Then the players started buying in at the plate and strikeouts dropped big time. Coach Bellanger patiently rebuilt the pitching with duct tape, super glue, and pine tar. It’s made a difference. Now pitching has a long ways to go with better recruiting, but the bats are winning games.
To me the key was Bakich finding the right solution for Grice. Get him focused on playing 1st base vs. standing in right field distracted by his last strikeout. Then let Bellanger work him into the starting rotation. We should not forget how Bakich handled Grice getting ejected. He put the hammer down and sent a message to the entire team. After that the entire team started putting it together. That’s the kind of coaching expertise you would never get from Monte Lee.
