a number of years and spent a great deal of time bass fishing.

Friends were visiting and wanted to get bait, so I took them to a shop in Ballentine, and lo and behold, Best and Burt Reynolds were in there shooting pool. We chatted with them a while, finding them to be pretty laid-back, friendly and great joke tellers.

Back at the lake house, we told the ladies who were mad because we didn't take photos or get autographs. Best also told us that Tom Selleck had been there about two weeks prior for the fishing.

First and only time I saw him at the lake during the years he owned the house here, although friends saw him at several of the marina restaurants from time-to-time.

he got called for jury duty. He showed up for jury selection like anybody else when I feel sure he could have pulled some strings and got out of it.

He didn't get selected, but had prepared by bringing a huge stack of 8x10's of him as Roscoe with Flash and signed them for anybody who wanted one. My Grandfather was a Baliff and had been assigned to assist him and got one for me and my brother. Granddad said that Mr Best talked to him about fishing for the majority of the time, and seemed to be a genuinely nice man.

There use to be a small country restuarant for years in downtown Prosperity SC, right between Newberry and Chapin. Back in the 80's when he had a house on lake Murray he was a regular customer there a lot. The name of the place was "Back Porch".
