I asked the pastor and he said they don’t do that “anymore”. Asked what he meant by “anymore” and he said he’s handled snakes and has seen some amazing things, just have to have faith. Then he handed me a bag of fruit on the way out. Said it’s tradition there. But it was weird because you’d think it’d be something kinda neat like a pomegranate or a starfruit… no, it was a Publix plastic bag with two bananas, an apple, and an orange. Like, c’mon!

when snake handlin', it is good to throw them in the fridge for an hour first, when you take them out you can handle them until they warm back up.

I attended a Pentecostal Church for a while. Tongues, drums and electric guitars in the choir. Whether or not you you agree with their beliefs, they could rock the house down. Way more funk and groove than Buddhists or Jains. But no snakes  ">">

Maybe, but for an old person to fall on the floor takes guts. Good way to break a hip if you are just putting on an act. Maybe they were being moved, maybe they were moving themselves, voluntarily or involuntarily, but they were definitely into it.

I can say Pentecostal was WAY more entertaining than my time with Episcopalians. Even "Catholic-Light" liturgy nearly put me to sleep in the pew.
Pentecost was literally "Ok, what do you guys want to sing next? Episcopalian was "Open your rule book to "Step 1" and proceed in unison...

the music is as you describe. Straight blues/boogie/gospel. If you close your eyes, you'll swear Leon Russell is playing piano. Except its an ordinary woman in a flower print dress. As you said, they are like, "What ya'll wanna sing next". We were visitors , but because there was a lull in the "next", my wife raised her hand and said, "His Eye Is On The Sparrow". The band looked at her and said, "We've never heard that one". Who hasn't heard that? The pianist said, "Just start singing honey, and we'll figure it out." So she started, and the mandolin plinked a few notes along, and the pianist got a few chords with the left hand, and then ... boom! ... they busted out in a blues/rock version of it that had everybody rocking. Most amazing thing I have ever heard.
We were a party of four. We came in 5 minutes late, and when we did they changed the attendance figures in the plaque at the front, because we increased the day's attendance by 20%. Small. And they rocked. You wouldn't think you would have to teach a church that song, but man, they loved the chorus. Did it about 5 times. Lots of space in it for a pianist to fill in with licks.

To me they have great value though I admit, in my life I've only read through with care twice. I had to make myself read it the last time although I knew the significance. I use a whip on my back if I go into a daze and lose focus.

As ponderous as all that naming is, I think it had to do with land rights. Especially when Cyrus let the Jews go home from captivity in Babylon.

I haven’t read genesis in a while, but I don’t recall aliens. I also feel like we were made to be the most intelligent beings because we are in His image. If there is some super intelligent advanced being that shows up, kinda kills that narrative.

whether God exists and what he did here? Genesis didn't mention other planets either, but that didn't affect anything when we found them. The list of things genesis doesn't talk about is much longer than the list of things it does.
If I had to check a box, I would say we are not going to find life anywhere else. If I had to check a box, I would say there is not any. I have reasons for saying that, but that's another conversation. But if I were to find out God made life somewhere else, hey, it's his party, he can do what he likes.

That's an involved question that I'll get into deeper when I get to the History of the Bible in a future post. Just keep in mind that maybe half the believers in the world now, and by far the majority of believers over time, have not had, follow, or followed the Bible's word.
It is just one of many "ready guides" to chose from for those who go that path. My point is, I wouldn't necessarily base any faith you have, or lack of faith, on the Bible. For some, it's the right answer. For others, not. Thomas Jefferson didn't like many parts of the Bible so he just cut out the parts he liked and made his own.
The Bible has an incredibly complex history, not all of which is even related to religion. When you understand its development it is just amazing. And I'm not even talking in a religious sense. It' a reflection of the current events of the time that molded its very creation. It's a very, very complex collection of documents. But for all those who believe in a God the Bible is just one of many, many, and not the only, related text.

Actually, if you want to go full-fringe, there may be aliens in the Bible. Some believe the "in those days there were giants in the earth" to be evidence for aliens. It's about as much evidence as a crop circle, but hey, until you know everything can you really say you know anything?

the Bible (1) that one of the qualifying factors of any particular sacred text had to be something reflecting or promising that Christ is, or has come. I read that but I have not spent any time listing any such from each and every book in the Bible.
I said that to say this; how would a revelation of any life on other planets certify the truth of The Gospel that Jesus is The Christ? How would knowing ET existed benefit anyone whether atheist, agnostic or Christian? Would anyone change their belief?
I can not address what change might happen in the hearts of atheist but I can testify, when someone has met God through his faith that Jesus is Christ there is no way to undo it. Who in your life have you met that you can deny exist? There's no difference to a Christian.
We can discuss the 'losing faith,' so often talked about any time you please.
1. I don't read much about the Bible these days.

No, God said he created all of the heavens and all of the earth and all living creatures. He didn’t specify where all of them lived or which planet they lived on. In my opinion there is no conflict.

The closest galaxy out of the 2,000,000,000,000 or so galaxies is 2.5 million light years away which means that we have no way of every communicating with anyone outside of the milky way.
The milky way is 100,000 light years in diameter which means that there is no way we could communicate with the vast majority of any being in the milky way.
We have been sending signals out for about 100 years or so. Those signals get weak quickly but still have only reached out to less than 100 stars out of the 100 thousand million stars in the milky way which is 1 of the 2 trillion galaxies.
The universe is big, really big.
The fastest spacecraft that we have ever made was the parker solar probe at 430,000 mph. At that speed it would take 6622 years to get to the closest star and 156 million years to cross the milky way.
Although the amount of stars is mind boggling, space is mostly very very very empty.
