Joyous night on Tigernet

The too large percentage of posters who hate Brownell far more than they care about Clemson basketball got what they’ve wanted since before the season even began. I’m sure the twitter handle for the NCAA selection committee will be flooded with thank you message from Tnet posters.

Called for him to be retained. You won’t find one; instead you’ll find plenty of posts where I’ve defended and supported this team- you know cause that’s our phuqueing jobs as fans. You on the other hand have plenty of posts where you seek to dismiss and diminish every accomplishment of this team. If you aren’t one the people who was rooting for us to miss the tourney so a stronger argument can be made for a changed, then I’m not talking about you; based on what I remember of your posts though, you are.

Likewise show a post of mine hoping we lose.

And even other people that want Brad out of here, I don’t remember anyone hoping we lose or glad we lost.

I wanted us to make the Tournament. The players are the ones I feel sorry for the most.

I have a thing against posters using the word “hate” for a rational position based on 13 years of results. It’s not emotional. That’s just projection.

You’re right about that, the players are what matters

That’s why those who think Neff owes the fans a change might be disappointed. He doesn’t owe us anything; he’s gonna do what he thinks is best for the student-athletes (I know that’s a loaded word these days).
As far as your posts I don’t know how you feel about losses; largely because I try to avoid the cess pool that Tnet is after losses. What I do remember is you explaining away a few of our big wins as “that’s just basketball” as if we stumbled into em. You’ve also been a fan of making the argument against this team’s resume.

I apologize if lumping you in with JK and Cobblox, mountaineers, and jstone was in error.

I am sarcastic by nature and mock idiots that don’t know what they are talking about. “That’s just basketball” was repeating what JK et al. used to whitewash the horrible losses. I was using it the same way on the unexpected wins to show how stupid it was to use that as a “reason” for anything. If it’s stupid on the wins, it’s stupid on the losses. I understand that can rub people the wrong way, but mockery is known to be effective. I would never mock the players for trying to win. Likewise, using the word “hate” is mockery.

JK is a troll. It’s dangerous as a Clemson fan to lump yourself in with that crew.

I would have been happy if Clemson had finally won the ACC, even if that would guarantee more Brad years. I would have been happy to make the Tournament this, or any other, year, even if it meant more years of Brad. But as long as Brad is here, it will be like this. Hope, disappointment, hope disappointment. It is who he is. He is demonstrably incapable of doing better. His miracle season this year was due to the weakness of the ACC. Nothing more.

Sorry I didn’t know your reference so I just assumed you

Mar 12, 2023, 11:03 PM

Were sincerely being dismissive of the wins. Sarcasm is often difficult to convey online. I’m not trying to group myself with anyone; what has happened to this board over the last several months is troublesome. It’s turned into the politics board where people choose sides and just yell at each other irrespective of if it’s good for what they all should be interested in protecting and promoting. Maybe if Brownell goes away that would change, but I doubt.
I do want to dispute one of your points though, that the only reason we had a good season is because the ACC is down - nothing more. The facts show that the top and the bottom are down; that is we have no team that is a sure-fire final four contender, and the teams at the bottom are really bad. I would argue that the middle of the pack is as strong as it usually is. Now look at our record; we lost to all of the teams at the top that we normally lose to. UNC, UVA, Louisville; the only team we beat that is unusual is Duke and we do sometimes find a way to beat them at home. We’ve beat some quality teams in conference this year and I think you are undervaluing what the team accomplished in conference play.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The players & fans deserve a higher quality coach

couple of years ago. If we needed any more proof that he is not the guy to take Clemson where we want to go, this season should be Exhibit A. Blessed with a comparatively easy schedule inside and outside the conference, he could not get enough done to impress the people who really count, the NCAA Selection Committee.

I find NO joy in us not making the Tournament. I feel that there was more than enough talent on this team to have made it, had they had the right coach leading them. I couldn't see Rick Barnes, Oliver Purnell, Cliff Ellis, or even Bill Foster taking this roster and losing to South Carolina, Loyola of Chicago, and Louisville. But, the reality is, we lost those games, and that is what kept us out. We can call it a snub till the cows come home, that still won't get us in.

Can’t remember the exact year, but we were on the bubble again. It was a Feb 25th game against FSU in Clemson and we needed that win for a chance at the tourney and it was a one possession game. Brad called a time out and we just chucked a wild 3 to lose the game.

The fans leaving the arena that night were all up in arms. I heard many calling for his head. He should have been let go that year. This has just gone one waaaay too long.

I do think this team deserved to make the dance, but nobody asked me. Whether the team was wrongly treated or not the fact is that playing in the post season in Basketball or Football…NCAA or NIT or the College playoff or some minor bowl is still an opportunity that can greatly benefit a team. It’s extra practice, extra opportunity to evaluate players in real time.

If the Tigers go to the NIT and win it then it will be more discredit to the NCAA selection committee. I’m ok with that.

Go Tigers!

A 23-win season without validation from an NCAAT invite. That is the real source of frustration added to 12 other years of cumulative frustration. I really don't have any animosity toward Brad; I just think he has had enough time and has taken us as far as HE can take us.

Mar 12, 2023, 9:23 PM

I think people hate Brownell because having experienced Clemson success in some sports means they feel entitled and expect Clemson to be successful in all sports. Well, that would be nice, huh? I’ve seen the bazillions of posts about CU being a “Football” school”. We beat UNC in football, they beat us in basketball.

You can say that that is our past but doesn’t have to be our future. Hard to argue with that. I’m always hopeful but with CBB I’ve seen improvement in recruiting, facilities, transfers, Wins! This current team is fun to watch and I wish them well and look forward to seeing them play again soon!

Go Tigers!

When CBB is gone how many of those that call for his head will actually be engaged in Clemson basketball much less attend games afterwards.

Long term contracts should be structured with tourney invites part of the pay package. If 68 college football teams got invited to the playoffs and Dabo only makes the playoffs twice in 14 years, he’d be headed back to Pelham. Long ago.

If you the those of us who want Brownell gone wanted Clemson to miss the tournament then you are out of touch.

I have wanted Brownell gone for a few years now. But every game I root for the tigers and hope we make the tournament every year. Idc about our history as a program. I’m tired of mediocrity in basketball. This year just proved he’s mediocre at best
