Do you think Clemson will go after Ohio State transfer portal WR Julian Fleming. We were on his final 3 list and thought we were going to get him four years ago. I just read article that said he was their best blocker. He has one year eligibility left.

Yup, probably a positions thing if we're being honest.
For QB, someone that is an emergency back up and they're okay with that then we're okay taking as a one and done since we haven't found our selves in a spot yet where we needed a possible starter from the portal.
For other positions, from what I've read, need at least 2 years of eligibility remaining to be attractive to Clemson.
HitsLikeRendrickTaylor has mentioned this a couple times and he's been a pretty good source for things like this.

we don't participate in college football free agency and I would expect this is what will occur with Fleming in his portal "recruitment"

There are five types of players in the portal:
Poached players - they enter the portal and announce their destination the same week without taking a single visit. This is NIL driven.
High profile national recruits - A starter at their current school but want to up the NIL amount so they jump in the portal then conduct a bidding war.
Troubled youth - some of these guys get in trouble and some believe the path would be easier at a different school instead of working to address why they are not higher on the depth chart.
5th year guys - folks who have graduated and want to a different experience or work on a graduate degree at a different school
1-AA elites - guys who were not highly rated out of high school but bloomed at the lower tier school. They simply want to test their skill at the highest levels possible.
Since we don't poach or pay upfront NIL or want the troubled youth type, the last two are our only options.
Keep this list as a reference and apply it when you are wondering if we will go after a specific person in the portal.

There's also talented players who have simply been buried by really elite players. Julian Fleming is one of them.

He was a very overrated 5*. He is not top talent and OSU probably asked him to go to draft or portal. They have plenty of WRs. Since his draft grade is not great he will take his 5th yr and see if he can improve on a team without all the WR talent.

No. These type of guys are looking to make money. Clemson can't use NIL like that. We use it to keep our guys. Dabo has said this many times.
The only portal players you'll see come here are guys that want to move up to P5. And theres plenty of solid guys in that tier.

Clemson's current receivers don't get many or any snaps if Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Marvin Harrison Jr, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Emeka Egbuka, and others are ahead of them.
