Just a bone to gnaw on about Ellington

This is in no way a slam or discontent, but I was wondering if anyone else thinks he may be regretting his decision to return for his senior year. Based on purely selfish reasons, I'd think probably so due to 3 things: 1) he's been hurt again with hammy 2) due to scores, he's not gotten alot of PT in second half 3) pass happy offense of Morris doesn't give him as many carries. However, I've never seen or heard a moment of outward selfishness or complaining on his part. I'm sure he is loving the experience of the Tigers success & getting a degree, but when it comes down to reality, he is playing to set himself up for a payday next year in the draft. I'm sure the 'experts' take all this into account, but STATS speak louder than POTENTIAL in the eyes of many.
Anybody to agree or disagree---have at it!

He really couldn't increase his draft stock much and injuries are always a risk. Anyway wasn't my decision to make.

- I am sure he is happy with less carries - less chance of injury- probably his biggest concern. However, like he did against Auburn, I would like to see one more big break out game - like showing off to his cousin Bruce at SC coots! Another game like he had with Auburn would really uplift his draft status!

draft position - with another outstanding game like at Auburn - I have never seen him run that well, and I am sure if scouts see that again, he will get higher pick - that's all!

for WRs get man coverage much of the time. Nobody can get away with dropping 7-8; it won't work.

He made the right decision. The hammy was a non-issue (they said he could have played if he needed to)so to this point in the year he has shown that he can be healthy. He has also shown the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Most importantly, the RBs coming out this year are not near as good as the guys last year. Doug Martin is starting, Lamar Miller has gotten a lot of PT, and David Wilson was a 1st rounder. This year he has a shot to be one of those top 3 guys taken. I hope he has a strong finish to the season and gets the reward in the draft that he deserves.

He would not be picked higher than the 5th round last year and this year will be the same. He's not a burner, he's not big, and he has bad hands. Good kid but I can name a bunch of backs who will go before him and not to mention that the NFL is down on running backs now. It is a pass happy league and big backs are popular. You gotta either be super fast or big. Just my opinion and I will stick to that, no disrespect because I love the guy and I'm glad he came back. I think that he will have a monster game against the gamecocks. Something about him reminds me a lot of James Davis and we all know how he turned out at the pro level.

Look up Doug Martin

He is not a big guy or a burner. He is a rookie that is taking over the NFL lately. Ellington is much faster than James Davis and JD's pro career was hurt by injuries. You seem to not really know what you are talking about...

Martin's not big or a burner, but he's a stud in the Ray Rice/MJD sense. He inflicts a lot of pain when he runs.

I was just showing that guy that his statements were false about the NFL only looking for super fast guys or really big guys.

TOP SENIOR RB IN THE NATION
Nov 12, 2012, 1:49 PM
|
|
in many scouts' eyes this year. this is a fairly weak RB class especially with Lattimore now out. I think coming back has actually helped him get more nationwide attention in our high profile offense and has also shown *knock on wood* that he can get through a full season without significant injury. injury concerns were a big issue with him last year with his troubles the last 2 years, and definitely would have hampered his draft stock. He's finally getting some good recognition now and I think he's a lock to be one of the first 3-4 RBs taken on draft day. With the NFL not valuing RBs as much lately this may be later in the draft overall, but still a top RB taken.
