TCU had 8 players drafted this year and another 5 go to UDFA. That is 13 starters from last year. Clemson had 9 players drafted in 2016. When you turn over half of your starters, you pretty much always do worse unless you buying kids out the portal like in Colorado.

Talent matters. They lost a lot of key players from last year's team. If you don't get the talent then you better be great with their development. But you can't have an entire team of developmental players and expect to succeed. You have to have a good balance, a lot of depth, and then a great staff to bring them along.

If you find yourself in this spot, this is where the portal can be your friend.
