Just saw the news on Watkins punishment and I totally

Aug 4, 2012, 6:59 AM

disagree. And let me preface this by saying my opinion on this has nothing do with the fact it's Sammy Watkins. Sammy committed a misdemeanor.....first time (and I'm sure the last) he got in trouble and you suspend him for 2 games and was even considering 4??? C'mon Dabo....really? The first half or even the entire Auburn game would've been sufficient, imo. Obviously there's nothinng I can do about it, but I felt the punishment was a little harsh. We'll be fine though....just think Dabo went a little overboard.

Oh, don't get me wrong....I didn't expect Dabo to give Sammy

Like i said way back when the arrest first happened that he'd miss some games, this has very little to do with the charge itself and everything about how you carry yourself and represent the football team and university.

Dabo is a no nonsense guy. He lets you know exactly what he wants and expects of you. He hasn't changed or diverted one bit since he took over this program. He's stated since day 1 how important it is to make the right choices. He's talked about how each player needs to represent not only himself, but also the team and the university.

Every person on that team knows full well that if you make a poor choice that not only harms you, but also embarrasses or puts the team in a negative light, there will be consequences to pay.

Sammy did just that. I think everyone would agree that it's a minor offense, but the fact is his bad decision made national headlines and put the university in a negative spotlight. That's something no school wants or needs and there has to be consequences for it.

Dabo's always been consistent so there was really no surprise in my eyes when the suspension was announced. Like I said in a previous post, this not only helps teach Sammy a lesson, but it sends a very strong message to the rest of the team about making the right decisions and hopefully it will prevent another good player from missing a bigger game down the road!
