It's the band's job to play like their team's winning, no matter what the score is. So I can't fault them for that. As a band member in the early 90's and having been present for many bad losses, I have significant experience in this scenario.
Them overplaying our alma mater is really tacky, but (1) I didn't even hear it because I was too busy celebrating at the 50-yard line, (2) their band director is internally taking sole ownership of that misstep (I've seen a message he wrote to his band members) and there may or may not be a public apology to Tiger Band coming soon, (3) can you really blame them for wanting to discharge their postgame obligations and get out of that stadium as quickly as possible?

Sorry, no "pass" for the band director...

I can appreciate that the director of the $UC band is "taking sole ownership", but I can't accept it as a "misstep." It is a continuation of years of "classlessness" that IS the University of South Carolina. Same for "they just wanted to finish their responsibilities and get on the bus." Again, sorry, but no. Please recall that Tiger Band waited patiently (AFTER the stadium announcer invited everyone to sing the Alma Mater) for the $UC band to finish playing their "fight song" before starting into the Clemson Alma Mater. On this basis, I can only surmise that it was more a matter of "screw it, we're playing now" than it was a "misstep" on the $UC band director's part.
In the final analysis, it was one more chance for $UC to show some class... and one more failure to do so.

The USuC band director turned and looked at the board that had the words to our alma mater on it. He could see the fans in the stands above the band singing. He then looked at Tiger Band playing. I thought he would wait for us to finish but he turned and looked at the gamecock players standing below him and made a decision to play their alma mater over ours. No different than the classless decision to play when the medal was awarded in the west end zone. He can say what he wants but he is trash.

No, you're right, I agree. Just playing devil's advocate a little bit. Sometimes you just want to get out of the stadium as fast as possible. I was in the band during the 0-57 shellacking by FSU, so I know the feeling very well.

They didn't know that ceremony was about to be held. That's about the only thing I can think of. It was extremely unclassy of them to do it, and someone on the band staff should have noticed and cut them off.

They weren't just blaring their band during the Alma Mater, but their band played through the first part of the award ceremony for Medal of Heroism. I couldn't hear what was being said. Now that's low class.
