Listen up DJ haters

The kid sacrifices and grinds. He works his butt off. He bleeds, sweats, and gives his all. It’s not his fault the coaches keep him in. He plays to the best of his abilities. Unfortunately that’s not enough to keep this team at the top of the mountain. The decision to play him anyways is not his fault.
So don’t bash this kid. Don’t act like he’s some piece trash loser. He’s a Clemson man.
It’s the coaches responsibility to put the best one on the field and they, THE COACHES, have failed at that.

Does he not? Do you have the recorded hours that each one put in with their respective WR corps outside of practice? DJ has been terrible at QB, but why pose an argument that you nor the other side could substantiate their claims? I forgot some of you like to argue in whimsical theories that can’t be proven nor disproven making your argument valid?

If he were doing everything to help his team then he would step back and hand it over to one of the other 5 stars.
His body language says a lot and he just don’t won’t to be there. Or so it seems!

If DJ had better coaches, OL, and WRs he would still be mediocre at best. He just doesn't have what it takes between the ears.

Don't hate DJ and he is certainly not a loser. Fine young man IMO. However, DJ is not good at his job and college football is big business. He has to hack it or be replaced. Clearly, he is not hacking it. Any other paid athlete performing at his level should expect a benching and handle it like a professional.

He also gets paid for all that now. With $$ comes expectations. He has failed. Nothing else to say.
You can be the best, hardest working person in the world; but if you fail there are consequences and you have to deal with it.
Thanks to NIL, college players lost that 'they' re just kids' excuse and protection.

yes i agree his ability isn’t good enough. but he has tried his hardest. that’s not a fault in my opinion.
the fault is in his coaches. the fault lies with the person responsible for continuing to run him out there knowing he’s not good enough.
DJ tried his best. I believe that. It just wasn’t good enough. But he did try his best. For that, i cannot blame him.

I think we can say he sucks and still like him and appreciate the effort. He isn't trying to suck. I think the coaches still believed in him. We will see what happens moving forward. My opinion is that DJ is in the wrong system.

yeah, i’m just not into berating a 20year old kid who gives his best effort. Is his best good enough, well it wasn’t last night that’s for sure. But saying he sucks and all the other derogatory things i’ve seen on tnet just isn’t my cup of tea. But you do you you.
I’m just trying to point out the kid tried his best and he’s devoted enough to Clemson that I think he’s earned a bit more respect out of our fan base. I am disappointed the coaches continued to play him. I advocated from the spring for Cade to start. I think he won the job fair and square but I still believe DJ has earned enough respect through his efforts to maybe not just say “he sucks”.

I don't think saying he sucks is berating him. He is supposedly a great leader and a great person. We are just talking football and we are we are now. That's all. DJ will be fine. I doubt he is that soft. It's part of sports. He isn't 16 years old. In theory he could be in the NFL next year and getting criticized even harder. These guys often go to the NFL at 21. It's part of sports. It's not like he is disliked as a human being. It's the way sports work. Big time programs are basically pro sports. If we were criticizing the play of Duke's QB it would be odd.

Most of us aren’t bashing the kid. Its not his fault. The coaches werent honest with their assessement of him initially, and they werent honest with us. We called them on it but they said “trust us.” We did. Now we are where we are. DJ does what he is told and tries his best. He’s not a guy who is capable of playing at this level. He is wealthy and could have had much better stats at a coastal or juco if that was his goal. We all wish him well, and want him to find what he is good at, but we have a responsibility to the other players on the team and this isnt little league.

I agree with you that the effort is there but the execution simply is not. I don't blame DJ because I know he is trying. I'm with you on placing the blame squarely on the coaches. If they really wanted DJ to be QB1 then they should have adopted an offensive scheme that works around both his strengths and weaknesses. Instead, we tried to make him fit a scheme that he just wasn't capable of producing like we needed him to.
All blame on this staff is fine with me...

Our coaches have failed to develop him. Period.
Nov 27, 2022, 2:58 PM

There is a reason why Deshaun Watson’s completion percentage and QB rating went down every year he was at Clemson, and his interceptions went up.
There is a reason why Trent Dilfer said that Trevor Lawrence wasn’t prepared by Clemson’s coaches for the NFL.
There is a reason why Kelly Bryant didn’t improve his passing skills, why Hunter Johnson didn’t develop, why Taisun Phommachanh didn’t improve, and why Cade Klubnik still isn’t ready to play.
The reason is coaching, or lack thereof.

Honestly I think Dabo knows our WR’s are so bad and that he probably thinks it’s almost unfair to put Cade in there at this point in his development.
I tend to disagree because Cade’s mobility would take some pressure off of the gaping hole at wideout and would provide the opportunity to run a completely different wishbone style of offense with 3 legit running threats in Cade, Shipley, and Mafah.
I feel like we are trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with DJ and these WR’s

It's an objective analysis, and if he has any hope of making it to the next level, he needs to be able to hear and process that feedback.
Also taking NIL money sorta crosses the rubicon of "hard-working kid" to "paid athlete subject to criticism for ratcheta$$ performances."
