Don't remember ever having to do that during my 1946-50 years at Clemson.

I never had the opportunity to see a game played in Fike. That said, I have seen countless pictures of game played in there and even some boxing matches. It's always fun/interesting to walk in the old gym and see just how small it really was.

Yes, and how hot it got during the games. I remember beating usc during the Frank Maquire (sp) days. I remember one of the Mahaffey boys make a sharp turn and ripped right out of his shoe. Had to go to the bench for a replacement Converse Allstar. In Fike you were sitting right on top of the court it seemed like. I was also at CU for the first game in Littlejohn.

Most people probably haven't seen the news about USC outlawing the word "field" so won't get the humor.

Speaking of Fike...

here are two photos. The first taken circa 1930 when it first opened and the second taken circa 1941 after the front section was added.
For the really old timers, what were the three buildings?

Students could do pick up games there. There was a small swimming pool, can't recall if it was there.

Think the small pool you are thinking of was/is? in Holtzendorff. Still there in the late 70's. Not sure now, but doubt it

but it hasn't been used in years other than for storage. I believe it may have been covered-over when the building was renovated/remodeled for use by the band before the band moved to the Brooks Center.

You mean the "Cow Palace?" Of course! I was there the night we beat Duke in BB who was ranked No. 1 at the time I believe with all-american guard Steve Vacendak! Remember that?

Lou Bello greatest ACC oficial ever. A bunch of us would all sit at one goal to agravate opposing foul shooters. One night lou came up in the stands and grabbed a tackle by the ears and shook him.

We had wadded up a big round ball of paper about the size of a basketball. Were playing UNC and their star was at the foul line and like most foul shooters had his little routine to go through before shooting. bounce the ball three times dip his knees and shoot or whatever. Anyway we had it timed down to the instant and decided who would toss the ball. He comes to the line the tackle ( I will not call his name he is diseased} timed it just right and tossed it up about 5 ft in the air. The basketball tumbled off the back of the shooters hand and onto the floor in the middle of his shot. Crowd went crazy nd Lou came up two rows in the stands and grabbed ??? by the ears and shook him real good.
