Could this be the day the ACC dies?

To start, I think FSU SHOULD be in the playoff. What more could they have done? They’re 13 and 0 ACC Champs. Plain and simple, they should get an automatic bid just like Michigan and just like Washington.

If they don’t get in (which seems possible) I think the FSU base will (and I hope they do) go apoplectic and further speed up their efforts to get out of this conference.

Fun Fact - In the last 17 years an SEC team as won the national championship 13 times, Clemson and FSU have won 3 of the other 4… If you think either of our programs should be left out of the playoff after a perfect regular season please help me understand your thought process.

FSU's selection will start and end on one thing...

losing their starting QB.

So, does the committee value body of work (13-0 and power 5 conference champ) or do they look at current status (losing starting QB)?

Say what you will, but I think any other fanbase whose team went 13-0 and lost one player would be livid if they got left out.

Losing their QB is not part of the selection Criteria

When circumstances at the margins indicate that teams are comparable, then the following criteria must be considered:

*Championships won

*Strength of schedule

*Head‐to‐head competition (if it occurred)

*Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory)

If the CFB adhere to this standard FSU has to be in the top 4

they *say* it's not part of the selection criteria.

The committee has been known to value/devalue conference titles when it is to their benefit. (See Bama getting in when not even playing in the SEC title game, for instance)

All attributes are selectively used. Just like the rankings during the year - the committee picks the ranking based on gut test, eye test, etc then looks for the objective to justify.

UM
UW
UT
UA

My guess.

Come on man gut test? Again, no guts or eyes can justify

skipping over an undefeated P5 conference champ.

No other sport ever even mentions a ridiculous eye test. You meet certain criteria and you’re in.

FSU has checked all the boxes. It’s purely objective and reasonable.

We will know at Noon today if this was objective or subjective (eye test).

My guess is you will end up with Washington, Michigan, Florida State and Alabama. I think Texas should get the nod in this case but the committee will be saturated with SEC love by Greg Sankey. It is unlikely that the SEC will get left out of the playoffs this year.

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?

Yes and no other sport has a ridiculous invitation format to determine a champion.

So stupid way of crowning a champion results in stupid methodology . Committee can talk all about advanced metrics but it’s just talk to justify what they want.

Not sure strength of schedule helps FSU that much at #53 (Clemson at #26). At least according to this site:http://powerrankingsguru.com/college-football/strength-of-schedule.php#google_vignette

Does losing a player affect playoffs in ANY OTHER sport?

No. And neither should it in one of the biggest sports in the country.

What if it’s a star receiver, running back, or cornerback? Where do you draw the line?

A team shouldn’t be penalized because they lost a player. A subjective eye test has no place in deciding who EARNED IT.

FSU won every game - two with backup QBs.

It’s not about flash and style. It’s about winning your games and EARNING a bid. Just like every other sport in the world.

I agree 10000%. This would and should trigger FSU to leave with Clemson quickly behind. A lawsuit against the ACC for failure to invest in their football programs which ultimately blocks other ACC teams from a trip to the CFP.

That lawsuit might help break the GOR

going to be super pissed when he gives the reasoning for them not getting in. If they’re still in Grapevine, probably best to include Texas in the playoff.

"Why dont you think that car can compete at Daytona? Well. The engine's missing. So there's that."

The ACC (football wise) died the day UT and OU joined the SEC.

It's been a dead man walking since the GOR was adopted by the members. Great move for the conference. Terrible decision for the top tier member institutions, whoever one thinks those are.
