Louisville has to vacate their title but UNCheat does not?
Feb 20, 2018, 12:54 PM

Imagine you are a senior in high school and the big man on campus. You visit UNC and the players there tell you "Hey bro, come to UNC we don't have to take real classes all we do is play basketball here." Now same recruit visits Louisville and there happens to be strippers there that you may or may not could have free sex with one time. If I am looking at big picture as a senior, I am thinking heII I am going to UNC so I won't have to worry about classes I can just focus on basketball, because there are women at every university attracted to big time basketball players.
For UNC to not have to vacate their national championships and now that Louisville does is an absolute disgrace. The NCAA should be ashamed of themselves.
I HATE UNC

They can lawyer up and side step punishment on a technicality, but that doesn't clear their name or remove the stain of what they did. Their fans can argue all they want, or bury their head in the sand, but every time another University gets in trouble UNC will be brought up.

UNC got the Hillary Clinton treatment, no doubt about it...
From the FBI Director's statements on the email scandal:
"Although we did not find clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues intended to violate laws governing the handling of classified information, there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.
"To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a person who engaged in this activity would face no consequences. To the contrary, those individuals are often subject to security or administrative sanctions. But that is not what we are deciding now.
So, in other words, she did it, we all know she did it--SHE knows she did it--but we're going to turn a blind eye to it. But don't get any ideas anyone, this is a special deal for Hillary!
UNC's lawyers were clever enough to loophole their way around a clear academic requirement by ostensibly offering the no-class classes to the entire student body, so there was supposedly no special benefit to student athletes. To paraphrase the FBI director..."To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a program that engaged in this activity would face no consequences. To the contrary, those programs are often subject to administrative sanctions. But that is not what we are deciding now.
And surely having John Swofford in your pocket is as helpful as having the FBI director in your pocket...

From your link:
--------------
While student-athletes likely benefited from the so-called ‘paper courses’ offered by North Carolina, the information available in the record did not establish that the courses were solely created, offered and maintained as an orchestrated effort to benefit student-athletes
--------------
The NCAA had a decision to make - would they treat the paper courses as an illegal benefit, or would they let the institution itself handle its academic requirements? In the end, they decided to defer to UNC on their own academic requirements.
I'd say it's reasonable to question that decision, and to worry about the precedent that it sets. Apparently, a university can set up any sort of sham classes it wants, enroll its athletes in these classes, let a few non-athletes in as well, and everything is hunky dory.
I also think it's reasonable that the NCAA not get involved in figuring out which classes are "hard" or "real", and which ones aren't. So I can kind of see how the NCAA came to its conclusion.
I think that in this case, the seriousness of the violations, the appearance that they were in place as a benfit for student-athletes, and the length of time that they went on, would have warranted more of a punishment than was issued.

i agree. UNC should have been punished... the NCAA probably should have done something
it cost them severely in credibility to do nothing after so long
if you read the decision, they made a strong case for lack of institutional control... but in the end they had to find a violation to base it on
on the other hand, UNC was informally punished in several ways

We do know that there was WAY more than just some classes that did not meet!
There were papers written by staff; grades were changed by B Boxill and others to keep athletes elgible. It was a cesspool of full-blown cheating. Swoffie lobbied and the Rams Club paid big to buy the NCAA. So you support UNC (the U of Non-chalant Cheaters) and the NCAA (Notorious for Cheating in Academics & Athletics). Shame on you! You have no integrity.

UNCheat no only had classes that did not meet. They had papers written by staff, for athletes. The athletics staff coerced instructors into changing grades. The admin of the AFAM department gave grades as needed to athletes to keep them elgible.
(Here's an example: Dabo had to pull the scholie offer fro Dwight Jones; he was not allowed to enter CU, because he was considered academically unable to perform the work. He played 3 years for UNCheat.)
