George Maharis (died last week at age 92) and his driving partner Howard Milner (died years earlier at age 83) were wheeling those beautiful eye-candy Chevy's in the famous tv series Route 66.

Couldn't keep my eyes off those older Vettes, and still can't.

R.I.P. Guys~

Great TV show. Martin Milner was George Maharis' partner.

I always wondered why Buz (Maharis) was never the driver. It was always Tod (Millner).

I gotta admit Bill...when I see one of those old one's driving around I admire those much more than the vettes they mass produced in the 80's when I was a kid.

And, like you I still recall those early days. Every guy my age wanted a Vette but none of us could swing it! The closest I came was putting a full race Duntov 283 engine in my 1953 Studebaker coupe. What I wouldn’t give to have that amazing car back! My dad sold it when I graduated, married and moved to North Caroina. I’m sure he practically gave it away. One of my dads friends gave me a set of real wire wheels that fit the car perfectly. I didn’t know until several years later that those wheels came from the very first, original Plymouth Fury show car. The wheels alone would be worth a fortune! That old Stude made many trips to Tigertiwn ..... back in the day.

I believe I read that one of the Route 66 guys was a member of the Gay Community. Do you recall that?

I love my 98 convertible..//..but recently I have injured my back and left hip. I haven't driven it in a month due to it being a six speed. When I have to put it up for sale, I will definitely have tears in may eyes.

It’s a shame they ruined the C8 by going with a more Italian super car mid-rear engine design instead of staying true to the corvette spirit

I felt the same way initially until seeing the
new design.

Corvette was is a situation where
the race team could no longer compete
with the front engine design. They got
as much out of her as they could.

The new design gives them a
better 50/50 balance in weight and
makes them competitive once again.

I have every episode of Route 66 on dvd and watch one of them for the second or 10th time once in a while. That show was big when I was an impressionable young teenager. Yes, the car was great.
I am always surprised that inevitably in every episode the guys get to a town and go out to eat dinner wearing sport coats the first night there. Sartorially the world was a different place in the early 60s.

Maharis was the tough guy on Route 66 and usually got into a fight and kicked someone's butt in the first 20 minutes of each show. America loved both of the Route 66 guys but the producers did not like the real Maharis and he left the show after a few years.

Big corvette fan. Just sold my C6Z06/427
still have my '81. total rebuild
because they were such a dog from the
factory due to the gas wars back then.
Looking ahead to a C8Z06.

My Dad purchased the last 1964 vette off the Detroit assembly line back in the day. At least according to Hampton/Newport News, VA dealership. Dark green. Sold a year or two later because yours truly and Momma would not fit 🥲 in two seater.
