Maybe they'll play really fast SEC style. Isn't the kickoff at 6pm?

Obviously it's all about money and I am not sure that the sec has that many MAJOR markets. It is there that the ACC perhaps will be more successful ... for espn.
Boston,Syracuse, Miami,Louisvillle etc. beats the heck out of Athens, Starkvile, Columbia etc

in Charleston had to move all season's game to Friday so as to avoid conflicting with the NFL Thursday games.
It is a big deal as it's the last chance for some big names to make the pro rosters. Some are still iffy.

Coot game kicks off at 6 PM. @ 7:30 PM, Panthers vs Steelers

on CBS. Also same time has the Falcon vs Jags I'm showing as on WMMP Charleston. The NFL Network has the Jets at Eagles @ 7:00 PM. This doesn't even count other Sunday Ticket games and apps. Plus other interesting college games at about the same time. I don't even know of a Saturday with that much going on almost simultaneously. That's allot of fingers in the same pie.

The Texas market

The biggest drain on ratings will come in Texas. The Dallas and Houston markets are two of the biggest in the country and they will have 49ers at Texans and Broncos at Cowboys starting at 7pm local time. For their last games against lesser teams, both sites had crowds of over 70,000 and high tv ratings.
And why would they schedule the game to start at 5pm on a Thursday for most of the potential audience. They are losing viewers on both ends.

to be the first so as to put an exclamation point on the SEC Network's launch. Before the network solidified it's plans a few weeks ago, the Coot game was the third one scheduled to kick off Thursday.

Saw on the local news that Shaw has a good chance of being the last back up QB for the Browns. His play Thursday will tell.
