The future of men's basketball

I don't pretend to know what, if any decision, will be made concerning Brad. But just a few observations about the future.

1) To say we cannot be better at men's basketball is a complete, loser mentality. Past "meh" is not an excuse. In basketball, the coach means more than any other sport.

2) Fast turnarounds are more possible in basketball than any other sport.

3) Being satisfied with "meh" has gotten us nowhere.

4) We should be a program with a high risk mentality not afraid to fail. If we fail, start again. What is there to lose?

5) It will take some stones, and an aggressive mentality to elevate our basketball program to consistent success. We have to want to do it

CLEM and the CLEM Nation need a BREAK from MBB - It is kind of like when

Doc Holiday said to Wyatt Earp in the movie, “Wyatt, you can’t get what you want…just get out of Arizona for a while. Let’em think it’s over.“

Drop MBB for 5 years.

Re-evaluate the university’s and fan base’s interest in a COMPETITIVE program. Then, make a determination if you want to get back into the game.

The 5-year break will give the fan base a much needed rest from the drama the mens basketball program has heaped upon all of us for the last 40 years.

Maybe, after 5 years the fans realize that they really miss the sport. Then, the athletic department can make a SERIOUS run at fielding a competitive program.

In the meantime, use the savings from mens basketball to fund more NIL for football.

While this all sounds like “sour grapes”, I’m really serious.

Take a business approach to the decision making on this type of investment in the sport. It makes sense.

Makes zero sense when you consider conference realignment***

Neff is a finance guy so for me, the decision is easy to make. Cut him loose now and save at least $1.5-$2.0 million as opposed to waiting another year to cut him loose.

Screw Calford.

Well, from Neff's perspective, he knew PJ was coming back this year, so Brad had a chance to have a good team. And he didn't want to mess that up. Now with all the starters we're losing, next year is going to be a rebuilding year anyway with us being toward the bottom of the league. So, hanging on to Brad doesn't really help or hurt next year's record. Since we're going to skink next year anyway, it's a good year to cut Brad loose.
