Marines to Clemson UPDATE

Oct 1, 2014, 6:56 PM

I just wanted to thank all of you for your ideas a while back on bringing a group of 11 of my Marines to Clemson, SC.

It will be a go!

We'll be coming down the evening of Thursday, 9 October and returning to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC on Sunday, 12 October. We're staying at a friend's lakehouse on Hartwell! The goal was to keep things cheap and it looks like the only thing they'll be paying for are 5 meals and splitting gas between 3 vehicles! They are all very excited and I can't wait to share what Clemson has to offer with them.

Here's the schedule:
------------------------------------------
THURSDAY
Dinner at Wingin' It

FRIDAY
Presentation by Daniel Rodriguez and other Clemson players.
Presentation by Colonel Sandy Edge (representing the Clemson Corps) at the Memorial Park/Scroll of Honor (history of Clemson, Clemson's military heritage, LtCol Jimmie Dyess, and the Memorial Park).
Lunch at The Esso
Presentation by the Clemson Registrar's Office (Veterans liaison and certifier for the GI Bill -- scholarships available, grants available, and what their GI Bill covers and how to use it).
Tour of Athletic Facilities
Dinner at 356

SATURDAY
Tailgating in Lot 4
Tigerwalk
Louisville @ Clemson
More tailgating in Lot 4

SUNDAY
Lunch in downtown Greenville followed by some NFL football watching
Heading home

------------------------------------------

Of the 11 active duty Marines:
-9 have never been on a college campus
-8 are younger than 26 years old
-7 have never been to a large sporting event
-Other than Parris Island, 7 have never been to South Carolina
-6 have never tailgated before
-4 don't know what tailgating is (driving too close to the car in front of you??)
-2 have their undergraduate degrees (one of my guys played DT for Cornell)
-1 is a Louisville fan
-0 are a fan of South Carolina

If any of you have other suggestions, I'm all ears!
