Met DeAndre Hopkins Last Night

Well, I entered a contest about 8 weeks ago, and it landed me a meet and greet with none other than DeAndre Hopkins last night at TopGolf. He was pretty quiet but happy to see a fellow Tiger among the contest winners (6 total). The wife and I got probably about 15 minutes of one-on-one time with him, and we basically talked 90% Clemson football. I was kinda nervous and forgot to ask all the things I'd wanted to ask (how cool is JJ Watt?, how was the transition from college to the SEC... I mean NFL?, questions about Morris's offense, how he liked Dabo, etc.). All in all, it was probably the coolest thing that I've done this year, and I am very appreciative of DeAndre Hopkins for taking some time out to meet fans and chew the fat a little bit.
A few highlights:
- I did find out that basically only Clemson fans call him Nuk. That was kinda nice. Kinda like when your family has a nickname for you that other people don't know about.
- I was able to secure a pretty awesome Christmas gift for myself (attached, hopefully)... thanks to Mr. Hopkins.
- The first swing I saw from Hopkins was a rocket that went straight as an arrow, leading me to believe that he'd fibbed earlier when he told me that he didn't really play golf. However, he then whiffed on the next one, which confirmed that I was indeed as good of an athlete as Mr. Hopkins... at least at golf 
- Got a laugh out of him when I said that I thought he needed to step it up after his game on Sunday against the Titans. That was pretty funny.
Once again, I'd like to thank DeAndre Hopkins for taking time to talk to his fans and to make possible the best Christmas present I'll receive this year (and probably most years). It was a truly delightful evening with a man who will be a proud representative of Clemson University and is a class act.

I-45. Was my first time out to TopGolf

I swore off golf when I was 13 years old. I played a par 3 in Myrtle Beach during the pony league baseball season. Everything I hit for 3 or 4 straight games after the par 3 went straight up in the air. Last night was the first time I'd tried to hit a golf ball since I was 13. Operative word here is "tried." It was NOT pretty.

Nice! I haven't been to that location yet. I usually go to the one off I-10. Top Golf is tons of fun, especially with a few buckets of beer

Got to meet Nuk at the Westin for the '12 Orange Bowl. He was cool, took pictures, and signed a souvenir football for my daughter. Only if it didn't have the WV logo on it!
