Intelligent thought…certainly none here. When a pack of dogs attacks people that know their stuff - in last night’s case cobbox - at some point it’s not worth the time. Cobb was the sports editor for The Tiger back when, and is a very knowledgeable person with respect to Clemson sports. His opinion is one of the few on here that demands respect. Yet you brainless ninnies resort to calling anyone with actual insight a girl - now I thought we didn’t use gender or race as pejoratives these days. But call them female sodacrackers if you want, just don’t be surprised when intelligent people leave the building, leaving this to be the hate group echo chamber it has become… Stupid is as stupid does…Forrest Gump

Cobb deserves respect? He reference "lunatic fringe" in nearly every post, is offensive to the majority of TNET users, and admittedly supports and approves of continued mediocrity from a key athletic program. He states nothing of use, is blatantly ignorant to the facts, and attacks people here on a regular basis. Respect? Nah

This is what passes for civil discourse these days. Be it basketball, football, politics (pick a topic), name calling or labeling shuts down the argument. It's shifts from the topic being discussed to defending yourself. A differing opinion commands the same respect given. Try having a political or social discussion without using any words with a suffix of "-ist" or "ism". Rare these days indeed. So a person states simply that he/she doesn't like Brownell's style of coaching and states why. Calling someone a member of the "lunatic fringe", "a pack of dogs" or a "brainless ninny" actually discredits both sides. It's obvious they don't respect anyone that disagrees and yet you demand respect after the name calling?
Agreeing to disagree is no longer on the table. It's a fight to the death until you agree (which probably isn't going to happen). The only outlet that remains is to begin name calling. And yet, the issue goes on and on unresolved. Don't kid yourself, I'm not looking at Tnet for solutions to problems. To me it's interesting, funny at times and can be informative. Some folks just prefer the sparring.

to you but 90% of Clemson fans are done with Brownell. I'm gathering this from IPTAY members, alumni, friends, family, multiple social media websites, and even message boards. We don't want him. We want Clemson to better than a 1st round loss to Morehouse State in year 13 with what we were all told was "One of Brad Brownell's most talented teams."
It isn't funny or fun. Clemson basketball isn't improving and we are wasting $9 Million a year on staying average.

I'm agreeing with you. I was merely pointing out the tactics of the opposing position these days. Probably not well stated. But that was my point. No, I don't think Clemson basketball is fun nor funny. And haven't for some time. I'm sick and tired of being "tobacco rode" in this conference. I'm tired of being the clown in this circus called the ACC. My wish is for us to be champions in EVERYTHING we do. If it weren't so painful, it would be comical to actually say, in the same sentence that Brownell is the best coach we've ever had finishing 3rd in a down year for the conference. AND, in that down year, getting knocked out of our own tournament, not making the NCAA and then...then losing in the first round of the Not Invited Tournament. AT home. To a lesser team. Best coach? please.

Everybody whining about "civil discourse" and "coming together" and "the two sides aren't that different" and "violence should never be used"
are all the people who don't mind living under Tyrants, would have been part of the 1942 Vichy Government in France that capitulated to the Nazis, and would still be singing "hail to the Queen" if they hadn't been hauled up by their panty-waists into a Revolution two centuries and more ago.

That demands NO respect from me. In fact he's done a great job of LOSING ALL RESPECT because of his ignorance in supporting a mediocre coach instead of standing for Clemson Basketball GREATNESS.

Far from demanding respect, most of the time all it evoked was laughter. I siriusly doubt if anyone expected, much less demanded, ground breaking journalism from The Tiger.

There is definitely some name calling and over-the-top shidtalking on here, but he brings it on himself by refusing to acknowledge the facts (not opinions).
Fact: Many schools with similar or smaller basketball budgets than Clemson have performed at a higher level than Clemson over the past 13 years in the following categories: NCAA Tournament appearances, NCAA Tournament wins, # of times finishing ranked in the top 25, and # of players put into the NBA.
Clemson, as a school, and as a geographical location, and as an overall environment, has proven beyond any doubt to be a place where elite young student athletes will and do attend in significant numbers. But, for some reason, we are to believe that THOSE FACTORS somehow prevent good basketball players from coming to Clemson, i.e. "it's just hard to attract top basketball talent to Clemson". Yet the very best football players in the country flock here year after year. Let's break that down a little more.
Neither the small-town atmosphere, rural location, or any other inherent, unchangeable trait prevents scores of elite football, soccer, or baseball players from flocking to Clemson. Now, there was a time when the best basketball players came from NYC, LA, Chicago, DC, and maybe ATL. All elite programs depended on those areas for players. That's not true anymore. Those areas are still hotbeds of basketball talent, but great basketball players come from all over now. Plenty come from rural and suburban areas far from big cities. You know, the kinds of kids that would be right at home at Clemson. So Clemson's location and rural atmosphere can't be the reason.
Why else can't we recruit at Clemson, according to JK and his crew? Well, we're a football-first school. Guess what - so is VT, Miami, ND, K-State, Iowa, USC, Ok State, Miss State, Wisc, etc. all have strong football programs, similar budgets, and all perform better than us in basketball. So that's not it.
The most compelling argument is the lack of basketball tradition at Clemson. That's a legitimate argument. The question is, how do you overcome that? You do it with an overall investment in the program that shows the world, including recruits, that you are serious about basketball. We already have good enough facilities and adequate budget, as has been proven, but I'd be willing to spend a little more. You'll have a hard time convincing any recruits, however, with a coach that has only put 3 players in the NBA over 13 years. You won't do it with a coach who has only finished in the top 25 ONCE in the last 13 years, and has never challenged for, much less won a conference title.
Get a proven winner, and or guy with a dynamic personality that can sell what Clemson has to offer, and the players WILL come. Otherwise, they won't.

Clemson basketball.
A lot of schools with similar or lesser funding have outperformed Clemson over the last 13 years in almost every significant way; it's been shown repeatedly on here. He either ignores it, or he is engaging in a form of mental gymnastics that allows him to deny it, or he knows it full well and is just trying to get a reaction.
