For all you old timers out there that don’t like change like me

Listen to some Chris Stapleton, dude is like country mixed with 70’s rock… amazing voice and song writing. Reminds me of a more polished and better ranged John Fogherty

I'm an alt guy. I also like 70's 80's rock.

Try his catalogue, I think you’ll be pissed at yourself for actually liking it.

… years ago.

He’s hard to pigeon-hole into one genre.

I would never call him trad country. Alt-country perhaps.

His voice has so much range, and he’s a heck of a guitarist to boot.

Totally agree.

My favorite who can do country, blues & rock very well is

Marcus King, and his guitar playing is amazing. Even established country stars like Zac Brown get him to solo on their records:

From 4:20 on is all Marcus!

I can’t get enough of his cover of Tennessee Whiskey. It’s great to hear someone in the country genre that is successful without going bro country Nashville corporate.

Country mostly all sounds alike to me but I really like Chris Stapleton’s bluesy/rock sound. I’ve seen very few country concerts but I would definitely go see him.

Have seen George probably 15 times.
King George and Alan Jackson are my favorites, but Stapleton is good.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’m also a fan of his blues songs

Not enough make the set lists. He leans on the “party songs” for those toss-up slots.

I saw him in Nashville at Bridgestone some years back and he closed out with one of my favs, Sometimes I Cry. I wish it was on every show’s setlist.

Also a fan of (almost all of) his ballads. 👌🏻 storytelling.

I didn’t think he would top Traveler after his albums that followed (good songs but lacking the dense quality). Starting Over is fabulous and on-par. Cold won all the awards but You Should Probably Leave is prob my fav (if I had to pick).

Just not a fan of his voice. If he wrote all the stuff for a voice I liked, I'd probably love him as part of that team.

But I despise "bro country" where the content is just
* dirt roads
* pickup truck
* short shorts
* hot women
* down by the lake
* grab a beer
* loud music
* party all night
* whatever else panders to the listening audience without real content

Can we not write anything with substance anymore? Not everything has to be "Goodbye Time" but if you give me something smart like "The Chair" or "The Dance" or "Three Wooden Crosses" or some other classics, I'll like it. "wait in the truck" is about something--I like songs that are about something. Kind of a different take on Martina McBride's "Independence Day."

Try some Ray Wylie Hubbard

Guy’s a poet. Kind of a dark poet.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, check out Marcus King...he writes some great songs!...

I’ve tried to like country music but I just can’t. Sorry. But I may take your suggestion. But I do like Keith Urban’s song Blue. And early Eagles’ crossovers.

Loved Chris Stapleton when he was with The Steeldrivers. If you like modern bluegrass, check out Blue Side Of The Mountain or Ghosts of Mississippi.

I liked country more as I aged when I was younger but now it's just songs instead of artist....I liked the 90's ...Travis Tritt is a great star & American
