I wonder

When the talk between Dabo and Garrett began? I suspect that it was before the championship game. It was kept quiet for obvious reasons. I don’t believe Dabo approached him about the job just days after the title game. He accepted the offer very quickly . Do you agree ?

I am guessing initial contact took place some time in December. I don't know who reached out first. I also don't know what kind of personal relationship they may have had prior. Perhaps an intermediary hooked them up to discuss the possibilities and gauge interest.
I'm sure at some point the details will emerge.

I would add that however it came down, it seems to have caught Streeter completely off guard. That is just an impression and no knowledge that I have.

Based on Hood's comments, it would seem it had been in the works for more than a few days. Agree, seems to have caught Streeter off guard but I don't know how Dabo could have played it any other way with Riley still in the playoffs.

However it came down, he sure did a masterful job of keeping it under wraps...

My guess is that it started towards the end of the regular season and then continued on after that. I would be surprised if it wasn't complete before the NC game and they waited to announce it after and made it official after the game.

That was my thinking also.. this didn’t “just happen” in few days
I suspect after the usc game Dabo made the decision.

Pure speculation on my part but is it possible things went a little South when Streeter showed interest in the Liberty HC job?

and thinking that this looks like Clemson's spread offense during Deshaun and Trevor year 1,2 I know that Clemson decision makers were taking note around the same time or before I did.
We had it planned for a while. Carolina winning in Death Valley has consequences.

happening.
Death Valley was bleak and raining when the Louisville kickoff happened. And Streeter looked totally defeated in post game and post practice interviews.

We played Carolina in Charlotte so what you are talking about? BTW the coot game is not the reason the change was made as this change was based on bigger goals.

I don't think Garrett reached out to Dabo because we did not have an opening. I wonder if Dabo reached out to Garrett while pondering what to do with Streeter.

He wouldn’t need to “reach out” to Dabo. He just tells his agent to strike while the iron is hot after they made the CFP and bring him any potential openings to begin ruminating over. Then when he made the championship game after hanging 50 on Michigan his price went up a little more. Meanwhile Dabo was browsing online for new coordinators and saw Riley in the window so he stopped in to take a look. After the championship game he called the store back and said send me that coordinator.

I'd like to know the answer to that, but doubt we ever will.

A part of me thinks Dabo has been thinking about it since the last few games of regular season.
I can also see scenarios of the South Carolina and/or the Tennessee game being the "straw that broke the camel's back" in Dabo's mind............tough to say.

My observation

|

After the Tennessee game during the post game interview a media asked Coach Streeter basically where does the Clemson offense go from here? (I’m paraphrasing). His answer was “I don’t know” to which I scratched my head. There are a lot of ways for a coach to answer that question, I don’t know doesn’t come to mind usually. Looking back I think the negotiations were underway.

I’ve wondered the same. It’ll be curious to hear how long they’ve had a relationship. Maybe they’ve known each other a while and had discussed this possibility if the stars aligned.

The new guy saw something he liked and wanted to be a part of it!Good for the Tigers..... not so good for the rest of college football. A few good OLs ..a bad A§§ linebacker and a big time WR and the good guys are ready to roll? Especially IF the on field leadership emerges.
