My perspective on Tillman Hall has changed
Jul 12, 2012, 6:45 PM

First of all, let me say that I love Clemson, graduated from Clemson, and will carry Clemson wherever I go. I find conversations like these to be more interesting than the standard Coot Sucks (even though they do) or the numerous recruiting posts. As far as Tillman Hall goes, after thinking for a little while, the fact that all races of students take classes in Tillman Hall speaks to how far Clemson, and the state of South Carolina in general, have come. I love my school and I love my state.

Although it was horrible for the actual slaves, just think where most of their families who live here now would be if it had not happened.

That's a pretty admirable position to take

Most people today enter arguments without any intention of being swayed. The fact that you can reconsider your opinion based on whatever motivation (an opposing opinion, a rewriting of your own, etc.) is far more accomplished than what the average person would do.
Good talk. I encourage you to pursue your interest in history. There are an unlimited number of works available.

man of his time. Based on your logic, Washington, DC needs to be renamed, as does every town and high school and anything and everything named after Jefferson, Washington, and dozens of others who did far worse than Tillman. They actually owned slaves!! Take down their monuments too.
Logic like yours is so flawed and misguided it's asinine.
At least you finally put things into a different perspective and realized somewhat how flawed your thinking was.
