My take on Jackleg

Jun 2, 2014, 9:20 AM

If he goes into the DRad meeting arrogant with comments about "look what I did before", he's gone. Jack is a great baseball coach (he honestly is) but an awful motivator. He used to get past that by recruiting great players that needed little motivation but he's been missing on that for a while. How long has it been since we've seen a Michael Johnson, kevin Baker, Kahlil Green type player? Parker was the last real power hitter and pitching depth is a joke. I appreciate Jack's tenure and he's supplied many great moments but he's also left us with gut wrenching losses at critical times a good bit also. When the big game and/or series is on the line, you need motivation...he lacks that. I think it's time for some new energy to be infused into the program. There are a ton of great coaches out there that would salivate at the chance to recruit at Clemson. They're doing more with less. Let's move on.

Who?
Bradley LeCroy - ATL Braves - Alum, great player, MLB exp
Monte Lee - CofC? Great motivator and recruiter
Gilmore at Coastal Carolina? - Doing more with less

What's John Pawlowski doing these days?

Jun 2, 2014, 9:35 AM

I haven't heard about him in a while. Is he still coaching?

Unfortunately...

Jun 2, 2014, 9:43 AM [ in reply to Re: What's John Pawlowski doing these days? ]

I do think Leggett gets another year. In fact, I think from DRad's perspective it's pretty simple: Jack gets put on notice this year and he gets one season to right the ship. If this doesn't happen, he gets fired and there's no dissent in the court of public opinion because DRad gave him a chance. Fire him this year and it looks like he forced out a long-tenured guy, that's had a lot of success, without warning.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jack should have been placed on notice after last season***

debacle. That was embarrassing!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Since he was so successful as the head coach at Auburn?

Jun 2, 2014, 9:52 AM [ in reply to Re: What's John Pawlowski doing these days? ]

In five years at Auburn his record was 167 - 126 overall, 71 - 79 in conference play with just one NCAA Tournament appearance (2010). I've known John personally since 1983 when we were both students at Clemson and while he is an excllent pitching coach IMO, I think there are better head coaching candidates available. Just my .02 cents.

You better hope he is or it is going to only get worse. Attendance will be a joke next year if changes are not made.

in a big 3 sport..

He would rather fire the rowing coach instead.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Monte Lee would be a great hire

Jun 2, 2014, 10:07 AM

Bobby Moranda, Tom Corbin, Casey Dunn, Monte Lee, Gary Gilmore, Kevin McMullan, Scott Forbes, and Mike Kennedy.

Re: if Jack is given his walking papers, you'll hear names like

Billy Mcmillon, look him up.

Monte Lee? No. Why don't you just hire current scar assistant coach instead of a former one...

Gary Gilmore? You fans that love small ball will love him! And he recruits speed first and goes up north a ton. He's at his alma mater in ccu and they're building him a better facility than Clemson's right now. But I'm sure he'd jump ship to come here. Right.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not saying these are guys I'd prefer...

Jun 2, 2014, 10:43 AM

I'm simply saying these would be among the names that would likely surface as candidates.

Monte Lee

Yes. Why? He is about to win the Florida regional today... Current SC assistants are still assistants.

######## needs to go....the program has spiraled into a below average ball team and I see no positive signs in it turning around anytime soon!!! We need a breath of fresh air and someone who can motivate the team!!!!
