Bama has got themselves a shifty, FAST QB, who will only get better with game experience. But, the thing which has been their calling card all these years, a Nick Saban defense, let them down big time yesterday. Steve Sarkesian's playcalling had them on their heels for most of the game.
IS THE BAMA DYNASTY DEAD? They get rolled at home by a team that is famous for being a has-been? Oh, the Humanity, the Humanity!
No, of course nobody is saying that. They are saying that Bama's dreams of a Natty are all still in front of them. Texas is not yet IN the SEC, so that game mattered NADA when it comes to Bama punching the SEC automatic ticket to the Playoffs.
THAT is the advantage to being in the SEC or the BIG. The most dominant team in either of THOSE conferences is not about to get left out of the four team Playoff. A one loss ACC Champion, however, could EASILY be left out, just to make room for another SEC or BIG team.
The media is poised to annoint USC (the real one) a Playoff team. All they have to do is keep their nose clean, and win the last year of the Pac-12, and they are in. The SEC Champ, and the BIG Champ are in. So, that leaves one spot open, for which all other teams are fighting. We already know the ESPN hype machine will be working 24/7 trying to get a second SEC team in, they do it every single year.
An undefeated ACC Champion would get into the Playoffs. We already know we cannot accomplish the undefeated part. So, our only shot, our ONLY shot, is to run the table, and look convincing against most or our remaining schedule while doing so. That would most likely include beating FSU twice. A daunting, but not impossible task. But, make no mistake, the cards are not stacked in our favor. And, we really have no one to blame but ourselves for that.

The 4 Playoff teams will be the 4 best teams in the nation the way they are every year. When the football is in the air, it has no idea whether a kicker from the ACC, Big10, Big12, PAC, SEC, Note Dame or a dark horse like TCU was last year. There is no other narrative.

The game has passed Saban by.
He can't find a good starting QB.
Milroe is a read-option QB being forced into a drop back system.
Their huge linemen can't move fast enough.
Their O-Line can't pass block.
Their receivers can't get separation.
They had no run game as soon as Texas figured out they couldn't pass.
Their recruiting is slipping due to Saban not liking the portal and not really understanding NIL.
There are a lot of Bama fans that are openly calling for Saban to retire after this year.
Why does that sound familiar?

Our schedule this year allowed for a loss. Beating FSU, UNC, ND, Miami, and the ACC runner up (hopefully an undefeated Duke) gets us in, but the 1 loss in game 1 removed the margin for error for the rest of the season. Bama is in the same spot, lose one more and they’re out.
For sure there is bias because the rankings this week should have Duke ahead of Bama based on results (Duke a top 10win and Bama a top 11 loss). For that matter, Duke should already be ahead of lsu.

A one-loss ACC with a name like “Clemson”, especially with the momentum of winning out, will be in the playoffs. We were in with one loss last year until about 10 minutes left in the coot game.

in a long time. Meechigan and the Bucknuts have looked meh. Bammer's D was atrocious last night and the passing game is lackluster. FSWho still has much to prove, as in can they win as a frontrunner. SoCal has to show they can stop a good team. Texas is still, Texas, and hasn't shown they can run a schedule since Vince Young. Jawja has the easiest path with their pitiful schedule. ND the second except for us in November.
We have a tall mountain to climb. We would have to go 12-1 with an ACC championship to get in. If an SEC team won 66-17 yesterday, would they fall from the EsecPN rankings? Of course not

but me, I'm just going to settle for not giving up 40+ to FSU in two weeks, and then possibly sneaking in the back door to the ACCCG after a run of 7-8 good games to finish the year off. That would set up a 9-3 season, and we have to beat Notre Dame to do that as well.
So actually a more likely goal at this point would seem to be to save the 10-win season streak.

Cannot argue with your logical underpinnings. The USC team who lost to Tulane in their bowl game last year is a media favorite but a dark horse IMHO. And can't disagree with the certainty of the B1G and SEC champs. Bama has Ole Miss and Tenn and LSU at home as competitive games. UGA has Tenn on the road a week after they play Ole Miss at home but not much with SEC removing Sooners from 2023 schedule. If Bama or LSU win out to the SEC championship, and FSU or Texas loses a game, look for SEC teams to pass the teams that beat them in the polls. Looks to me like UGA, Texas, FSU, and Michigan/Ohio St are the most likely suspects with a second B1G or SEC as you state. Same ole same ole. Hopefully, Clemson can resuscitate and shake things up in two weeks.
