Name Says it all !

I really am an old school guy. I went to the National Championship Orange Bowl game in 1981 ( actually New years day) and the ticket was $20--$20 !! Back in those days folks watched and rooted for Clemson but nobody kept up with recruiting etc. That was left to the coaches. Through the 80s-90s I went to many bowl games and most home games and even a few away games. A few years ago I stopped ordering season tickets for football though I maintain my minimal IPTAY membership. Weather ( heat), price and blaring loud music just made it not as enjoyable anymore for me at least. Crowds made it to the point you could not get in anywhere to eat or have a beer etc so I just watch on TV.I root for the TIGERS as much as ever but I have no interest in keeping up with recruiting etc and I have no need to know EVERYTHING. I do however go to several basketball games each year. I can get the Clemson experience w/o the crowds, price or concerns about the weather. I can also go anywhere downtown I like to eat or drink. Granted we don't win as often as football but to me at least it's a Clemson experience w/o the hassle. And BTW you can still get a hotel IN CLEMSON at a reasonable price !! I know I'm an old codger but I'm a true Clemson guy not a " johnny come lately " that jumps on a bandwagon. GO TIGERS--IN ALL SPORTS. And PS--YOu don't have to win all the time to enjoy the experience.

It was like I was typing this up to going to basketball games. I started going to games in the early 80’s. Have not been to a game since 2006 for the same reasons. Stopped going for all the same reasons you listed. So, I Built a pond house and decked it out with Clemson stuff. Me, friends and family watch all the games there. That’s my Clemson experience.

Couldn’t have said it better. The parking problem could be solved if fans weren’t allowed a space for their car or truck, a space for their tent and grill and another for generators and ice coolers. Not knowing kick-off times. Can’t make reservations and if you do it has to be for Friday and Saturday. I’m old school also, never figured out why tailgating has to be an all day affair. Hate going to night games. Watch all on TV. I stopped going years ago myself. Now just go to an occasional away game at WF or UNC or Duke. Don’t like the atmosphere in Raleigh. Miss 1:00 games and getting home in time to watch a night game on TV.

Adjustments to their life to play football for the Tigers. At 81 it’s the least I can do to make a few adjustments in my life style to support the university that gave me so much. If you think it’s easy at my age to travel three plus hours each way to see the Tigers on Saturday you would be wrong! It’s still a barrel of fun to me. See you in the valley

I was around in 1981, my first year at Clemson. I followed recruiting very closely, as did my friends.
I’ll be sure to stay off your lawn.

Clemson Football home games are actually bigger events and bigger crowds than NFL games so I see what you're saying. That said, I suggest you road trip to Wake, Duke and Ga Tech (at Grant Field) games for that old school college feel, better seats, and cheaper tickets. And sounds like you have a good modus operandi for Clemson Basketball - I used to love returning to watch hoops' games, spend a night or two in Clemson and grab a bite to eat downtown. Soccer, baseball and now softball also offer that great environment! Good luck oldschool57 and go Tigers!

I have to be there a couple of times a year. Feeling that energy in the Valley is one of life's great pleasures.
