New night/low light photos on the Galaxy S7 are freaky good

I set this tent up and took this photo at 7:15pm in a heavily wooded area around dusk last night. It was almost too dark to see to set up the tent. Yet this photo looks like it was taken at high noon.
By the way, this was literally in my back yard. Going to add a fire pit and other stuff. Creek only "floods" 1-2 times per year, so nothing permanent can go back there. But the creek has to go 35 feet above the banks to get to our subflooring. About 15 feet to get to our fence at the back of the yard. Never seen it flood more than 4 feet above the banks and that was in the October floods when we received 11 inches of rain. Now had the old Mill ### in Lexington held, I'm not sure how high it could have gotten.

Rate it as the best camera phone. The new HTC is supposed to be just as good, but not at night.

Also takes about 1-2 second from pocket to taking a photo. No more missed photos. Pull it out, double click the home button and shoot.

What do you think about TouchWiz?

That's what put me off of Samsung after my GS3 - it was so clunky/slow/crappy that I ended up rooting the phone and running CyanogenMod.
I've heard that it's gotten better, but I'm a bit bummed that they don't offer a Play Store/stock Android version.
¡Gracias!

Well, I used a mod years ago but Android has improved (LONG)

I'm on 6.0.1 (Marshmallow). There are some things different. Some I like, and some I don't, but the more I learn, the more I actually LIKE the stuff I initially disliked (if that makes sense). I had Android Lillipop on my last phone and it was pretty good (after Verizon fixed it). If you get Android direct from Google it sucks. I think Verizon has already patched Marshmallow, or Google got their act together.
First, I always use the power saver as that's the only way I can be assured to get a full day on the phone without charging. But in 6.0.1 they have it set where power saver features cuts off all background data (and updates) on all apps. This ticked me off at first until I found the screen to choose which apps to bypass power saving and allow updates (Facebook, Gmail, Weather, etc. were useless with power saving until I found the bypass setting for power saving mode). But most apps are fine not updating as far as I'm concerned. Saves more juice.
Second, you can actually control which apps show notifications (and it works). Permissions are also handled differently. Before Marshmallow, when you installed an app you got a list that no one ever reads through for the app permissions. Now, you download the app without that screen. Instead, when you first run the app, it gives you a screen to allow each permission (nice because it forces you to pay attention). You only have to do it once. And you can pick and choose permissions (like disallow location but allow access to your photos, or whatever).
Security is also improved. The fingerprint option is nice and works well now. Also you have a new Private Mode in the top bar pulldown settings. In the past every photo or video on your phone, no matter where you put it, showed up in your gallery and MyFiles. With Private Mode you can add photos and video anywhere, that are not shown on the Gallery and in any file explorer unless you activate private mode (which is password protected). once activated, those photos and videos show up in the Gallery and in a file explorer. When not activated the photos and videos are also not visible when you plug the phone into a PC. I'm sure this feature will be hacked soon if it hasn't been already.
You can also access developer mode and set the screen animation duration, making your phone appear/run lightening fast if you set the animation time to zero. The only reason I would root my phone would be for tethering for internet or to block advertisers system-wide. Worth it just for that.
For what it's worth, you may also be amazed (especially on older phones) how many marketers use apps to spy on you. Without using your phone you can literally make thousands of DNS connections daily and not even know it. Some apps absolutely blister your internet connection with marketing to the tune of 50 or more connections to marketers when you run the app. Amazon, Skype, Disney, Facebook, and King (Candy Crush) are very bad apps at doing this. If you have and use the Amazon App on your phone, uninstall it as it grants itself constant and permanent monitoring permissions. Use a web browser to access Amazon instead....and delete your cookies on exit. Facebook also does this, as does Skype. Not even using the Skype app, you will make nearly 200 daily connections to Microsoft just by having it on your phone. This is where the power saving features actually end up being a benefit as you can deny Skype in power saving mode, as well as Amazon, etc. You still get 50+ connections to marketers when you run the app, but only when you open it, and the constant connections are cut off when not using the apps. If you spend your day checking Facebook twice, spend 10 minutes browsing Amazon on their app, Skype with someone, and play Frozen or Candy Crush a few times, that alone will give you 500+ hits to marketers. Toss in some web browsing and you get just as many from advertisers. Some websites even install cookies that keep pinging the website even when you're not using your phone via cookies. Always delete cookies on exit. Many stay around long after your browsing session.

my note 5's camera is awesome, Samsung makes the best camera phones on the market hands down.
Why anyone in this day and age would still choose apple and their soon to be cracked screens is beyond me.

I've had my Note 5 for about 2 weeks and love it. Camera is really sweet as is the rest of the phone. I don't understand the whole Apple/IPhone craze either.
Interesting stat - Apple controls the American market but Droid is around 2-1 worldwide. Perhaps says something about the US and how a lot of people fall for marketing and hype. Will say Apple does an extraordinary job with their marketing.

provider subsidies, which the rest of the world doesn't do. So when you're in another country faced with buying a $700 iPhone or $300 Android, not a hard decision.

Where can you get a 300 Droid with similar comps to an IPhone?
My Note 5 was around 700

He is correct, I paid 600 for my note after the free iphone got a cracked screen(after 1 month). Despite the hardware, my biggest complaint has always having to use Itunes to install software and upload personal data. Why do I need apple's permission to do this?

I'm paying $29 month for 2 years through Verizon. $696 to be exact
Balm - to expand on what you said - what I despise most about Apple is their exclusivity with chargers apps etc.

I am still paying Sprint for my broken Iphone. Which gives me an Idea. I am going to use the insurance to get a new one and sell it on Craigs list.

Smart. I dropped insurance when I got the new Note. With my work I constantly drop my phone and it's often in very humid conditions. The whole cell insurance is a scam. I paid it for 2 years on Galaxy 4- then it's another $100 to replace the phone.
I always wrap mine in an Otter Box Defender and it's virtually indestructible.

I dropped my note a good 4 feet onto the pavement getting out of the car last week, not a scratch.
it is $150 to replace my iphone with the insurance. If I can get 300$ new in box it will be worth my time.

Did that twice with a galaxy 3 & 4 from about ten feet or so. No bueno. I've used Otter Defender since.
You may want to check with Sprint before you go that route - they often restrict selling it for a certain amount of time on a new or refurbished phone. Was thinking of doing the bogo on Galaxy 7 but I would've had to wait 6 months before I could sell it. I also preferred the Note

From iTunes to cables, everything is proprietary and closed. Being a computer guy, I hate that. When the standard was mp3, they made their own standard. While good for them, bad for the consumer.

That's not the case anymore with the cheap aple versions. Also you make it seems like all androids cost 300. Very very few do. The premiums models are 600-700 full cost

No where did I say that flag ship Android phones aren't as good or better than iPhones, nor more expensive.

And to be honest I don't know why Europe is buying androids over iphones. Considering probably the higher end androids are the best sellers there for Android, I doubt it's cost.

Wife has iphone 6 (not the plus)
I would much rather use mine than her's.
Better picture. Easier use and a lot more apps/functions than the iphone.
I also have that cool little pen I use a lot for writing down notes.
The only thing I hate about andriod is those two little download/upload arrows beside the signal at the top. Seems to me that it takes longer to load stuff due to that. With the iphone, as soon as I clicked on it, it popped up. But I'm not a tech savvy guy like most of you so it may just be me.
