Still think Clemson is better off with bigger DE's

Play Shaq Lawson.
VB and Crawford are the same guys that had trouble last year getting to the QB against the real OLines that we played, not sure how this yr is any different.
Beasley on obvious pass situations. Crawford rotating 50/50 with Lawson.

You do realize that Crawford is bigger than Beasley. Lawson played for Crawford last week and UGA still ran the ball.

And did I miss something? Wasn't a heavy dose of Beasley and Sheuy that gave South Carolina and Ohio State fits? What happen last year was the case of turnovers and jitters. We go into Doak-Campbell on the 20th, play like we ain't got nothing to lose, and let the chips fall where they may!
ALL IN!!!

Beasley is at least 30 pound under an effective playing weight, which is why he is suspect against the run. Don't remember his name ever being called at UGA. They wisely ran right at him. Our defense was exhausted in the 4th quarter against UGA because our offense (particularly the OL) collapsed in the second half, throwing the whole game on the back of our D. Let's hope the same doesn't happen against FSU.

His name wasn't called because he was suspended for that game.

With the exception of Gurley's first TD run, I'm pretty sure most of the runs went to the closed side of the formation. Meaning, the side opposite Beasley. Even the toss to the weakside was an over alignment I think that had Goodson playing the edge.
He obviously wasn't a factor in the UGA game...but to say that he's "30 pounds under his effective playing weight" when there is a documented history of super-athletic defensive ends excelling as lighter players at the college level...and in light of the fact that he'll be playing LB in the NFL...doesn't make any sense.
He was named an All American. That's "effective" enough for me. And BV isn't the first DC in history who's had to scheme to account for having a lighter player playing weakside defensive end.

Crawford is a big guy

he's around 270-275 lbs. Lawson is a big guy too. He's almost so big he's growing into a 3-tech DT.
Vic is the small De, he's really a LB playing DE.

You must not know anything about Crawford

He's 6'5" and 275 lbs.
He's two inches taller and about the same weight as Lawson.
Also, the only game we had any problems creating pressure in was the FSU game, so I'm not sure where this thing about having "trouble last year getting to the QB againt the real OLines that we played" is coming from.
Very misinformed/ under-informed post.

Crawfords "amazing" stats from last yr
Sep 12, 2014, 3:11 PM
[ in reply to Still think Clemson is better off with bigger DE's ] |

Crawford at 6-5, 270/275 Lawson much thicker and stronger at 6-3, same wgt
Proof is in their play.
Crawford last yr vs UGa/USC/OSU with combined 1.5 TFL and 2 QB pressures. While playing the majority of the snaps. Tremendous job. He got all his stats vs the rest of the ACC, and still ended up with only 10.5 TFL despite playing alongside the best interior in the ACC.
Lawson with 10 TFL and 9 QB pressures in roughly half the snaps.
Misinformed huh?

So you want Crawford and Lawson to play the most snaps and bring in Vic Beasley in obvious pass situations, correct?

Our offense tends to lose games for us more so than the D

Last year we came out and turned the ball over. Too many three and outs. No team can trade three and outs with a top 25 program and that includes FSU, UGA and SC.
Just go back and look at our loses against those teams and you will see that our defense showed up but our offense screwed us big time.
Again. We can't afford to trade three-and-outs with top 25 teams. Somebody has to score

Can't Trade Three-in-Outs With Good Teams
Sep 13, 2014, 11:44 AM

They will score. I had a feeling that would happen even after we were up on Georgia. That was my greatest fear. You have to run clock. Do whatever you have to keep the offense on the field for more than three downs.
When the defense knows that your quarterback is struggling, they will bring the house every time and make everyone look bad.

The D will be fine as long as the offense isn't putting them on the field every 30 secs like they did against UGA in the 2nd half.

I hate hearing a couple of things...
Sep 12, 2014, 2:49 PM

1. That FSU "wanted it more." 2. That we got "lackadaisical" preparing for UGA.
That really $UX.

can't focus for that I'm concerned. I'm guessing they bought into the hype and were resting on their laurels of beating UGA last year. Getting our butts handed to us - as Sheriff Buford T. Justice said..."THAT was an attention getter".

I think he means with the approach. They were probably running the same plays over and over again to the point where the intensity began to wane.
I don't think he meant it like they weren't taking it seriously.

Be DOMINANT against "Crab Legs" and the rest
Sep 13, 2014, 9:03 AM
|
|
Dominance means knocking the crap out of FSU all the time every time! Wipe that S--- eating gin off of Winston's face. Let's even find out who is second string quarterback for FSU. One of CU's biggest mistakes on August 30 was not hitting UGA hard all the time. You can't hurt those guys, they play against their own defense in practice. Come in with attitude and smack 'em in the mouth from the opening whistle!

Heres my take...
Sep 13, 2014, 5:16 PM
|
|
and I will go through this again....
Clemson isn't going STOP Fla State! This isn't very likely to be a --13 to 10--- type game. To me, the key for Clemson is NOT giving up the big play. You gotta make FSU earn everything they get. I would be curious to see how patient they would be if they had to continuely go on long gruling(sp) drives. If that means a bend but don't break defense, so be it. I think Winston/The Noles thrive on the BIG PLAY...if you take that away, I think that goes along ways. Can they march down the field on 15,16,17 play drives? We'll see....
For Clemson's offense...(and whole team)- the key is finish the game--like the coaches say. We have, HAVE to get to the 4th quarter. If we do that, we'll have a chance..."chance".
And just as extra measure... Less than 30 points, probably isn't going cut it (by CU)
"if we going do it, we going do it big"
hahaha. #21
