Next Years Roster

Jun 18, 2013, 3:42 PM

Looking at the roster from this year, minus the graduates, plus the 9 freshman and 4 folks from the 'development' squad, there are 43 guys for next year. There are 35 spots. Should be interesting what the fall holds. Any thoughts?

young. we spent lots of time cultivating that this year. I'd hate for use to have to develop a new excuse after just one year. ;)

Don't count on keeping all the guys...

on the "development squad". Plus, it's my understanding that Matt Reed has left and will transfer. There may well be others.

There is no "development squad." Only SC uses that term, and I think they stopped because of all the crap they got over it. There is no such thing as a developmental squad under NCAA rules.

But, I assume you're talking about the guys that did not make the roster last year, Lovvorn, Mulkey, Bailey and whoever else I'm forgetting. They probably ought to transfer now because the odds of them making the team next year aren't going to be much better than they were this year.

I hear Reeder is done, so that opens one spot. Also heard the 1B who redshirted is probably done due to lingering back problems, so that opens another spot. Kent will be a RS Sr, so you gotta wonder if he'll be back. I'd also bet that one, maybe two, of the juniors and seniors who haven't seen much time will also walk away, or be asked to do so. Haven't heard anything about transfers, but it wouldn't surprise me if there is another besides Reed.

Looking at the roster, I'm betting there will only be 25-26 guys that return. Not sure how many are scheduled to be in next year's class, but I know it's down by one since Parke switched to SC. If need be, one or two of the incoming guys will be told that there is no room for them.

Actually, coach Leggett used that term...

before the season started. Kent's gone, he was recognized with the rest of the seniors.

I hate it that Jack used a USC term. Bottom line, they overrecruited a little last year. Hope it's not a trend.

Just because Kent was recognized with the seniors doesn't necessarily mean anything. JoMo was recognized last year, then came back this year.

Kidding.

Will have some transition in 2014 but technically 2011 was a transition year as we had a lot of new people and it went well.
