So the mediocre ACC has three teams in the Elite 8?

Clemson, Duke and NC State?

And NC State, which went 9-11 in the ACC, went on to win the ACC?

So maybe parity IS a thing in college bball...but I digress.

But anyway, so we have a team with a losing record from a mediocre conference joining two other teams from the same mediocre conference in the ELITE*** 8.

The only viable conclusion is that while the majority of us sound off on Brownell's ACC track record either pro/con, an even larger majority of us (including the writer) know exactly nothing about the competitive realities of college basketball.

None of us have a clue about the realities of college basketball

and has been that way for a long time with fans and sports show talking heads. Now you can pretty much add coaches and commentators to that group with portals, NIL, transfers, new rules about establishing position or the offensive player wailing their body into defenders, etc. You don't know what these kids are thinking, what is motivating them, what their plans are, or how they are going to gel together as a team. You also don't know if refs are going to let them play or call it tight and when the way they call it might just change mid game. Add to that the impossible predictability of the NCAA March Madness brackets and you might as well let some third world aborigine that's never heard of basketball pick your bracket for you.

That is the challenge for Brownell and every other coach. Brownell is proving in this tourney, though, that he CAN coach and he is outcoaching the other teams. We are showing more balance and depth than any other team I've watched. Clemson is beating the odds game after game when it counts!

Just like they said in Moneyball - "you think you know....but you DON'T"

Nice of the NCAA to set us up on a collision course

If UNC had won, there would be 4 ACC teams in the Elite 8, and they all would have played each other

You can look at that two ways

Either no chance for us all to make Final Four or a guarantee that at least one or two of us makes it to Final Four (like in NC St / Duke matchup). I thought about that, too, though - good point!
