Crazy NIL stuff, re Arch Manning

Saw on a Texas site where Arch Manning made $3.2 million to be Texas backup QB last season.

By comparison, the starting QB for the 49ers, Brock Purdy made $870,000.

This crap has to be reeled in. Totally out of control.

Which old time pro said he made more in college than in the NFL.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.

I think it was Eric Dickerson, but I'm not sure.***

Made up tweets I've ever read. Who the hale is this guy from PA covering the Nittany Lions who seems to know more about manning than the 10,000 people who actually cover UT football? Seriously people twitter is garbage.

Once the novelty wears off, the revenue sources will diminish. Donating money to 18-23 year old college kids will get old whey there’s nothing to show for it.

Youd have to think people will get tired of it.

The fans anyway.

I think a bigger problem coming into NIL is some of these “collectives” are throwing money around to buy players like it’s the 70’s and 80’s again. Except it’s no longer a violation. There are some schools with people funneling millions of dollars into “collectives” and literally buying guys on the free agent market. No rules. No control.

A salary cap is needed, asap. Or pay the scholarship players $30k or whatever. That would hopefully stop the jumping teams for more money.

But overall I think there will be “salary” cap, where the higher performing, more marketable players get the bigger chunks and overall every scholarship player has to be given a minimum “salary”, which all rolls up into a cap.

There's no way to cap it. It's just gotta shake out where all the collectives and local businesses figure out it makes no sense to throw that kind of money away.

I am already tired of it. I donate to my school and write these funds must be used for non student athletes and in no way can be used for athletics.

IPTAY should redirect some of their funds to non-student athletes who struggle to pay tuition every year.

Especially just to reel them in. That's a pretty speculative game.

Helping those already committed, who are putting the work in and getting it done, prosper from the NIL kitty is another story.

I've had a great appreciation for the measured steps Dabo and the AD have taken with both NIL and the portal. Let the scrum work itself out while building a great foundation behind both NIL's intended purpose and the college mission that is their charge.

Arch is living off of the Manning name right now and his grandfather Archie Manning. Let’s see what he can do on the field ??? I bet he is not as talented as DW or TL. They both lead their teams to a National Championship and several ACC Conference Title.

So far he has proven nothing on the field.

Arch Manning was the most highly recruited QB in history, at least in the NIL era.

your confusing NIL and NFL payroll. They are two totally different things. The NFL may have only paid Brock Purdy $700K but he made millions off sponsorships, endorsements, and marketing deals(his NIL).

Some of his endorsement contracts include:
Nike
Gatorade
Toyota
Alaska Airlines
and many others....

If that is true, that is the problem with NIL. No college athlete should be paid more than a professional one. I don't know how this gets better without it being challenged in court once again. I know Chip Kelly made the proposal that the schools need to pay the kids and that would eliminate the need for NIL. That sounds amazing, but if that were to happen who is going to ultimately pay the price for that? The fans? Other sports? Students? I also believe that would limit the amount someone could make while in college if it went to a profit sharing model. The players aren't going to agree to that. I also don't believe the school presidents/ads are going to agree to a profit sharing model as well, unless they are forced to by the courts. If they do, be prepared for the schools to start dropping certain sports and increases in tuition. I believe its only going to get worse before it gets better.

from April...

He also signed a NIL deal and all the money went to charity ....

"Nil Value" and actual money are different as well... he has a $3.4 mil "NIL value" per On3 sports estimates...
