I learned years ago if there is a strong high pressure system moving east from the Ohio Valley and a low pressure system in the Gulf near New Orleans this time of year, it gives SC our best chance of snow. we just missed a couple of chances - just think what it would be like if this cold front had hit last week when our rain gauges had 3 to 7 inches of liquid in them. I remember several big snows in my early years, practically every year but almost nothing in the last 10 years,

If memory serves, it was the first week in January and the storm dumped over a foot of snow all across the I-85 corridor from Charlotte to Atlanta. Completely shut down the interstate for a few days and stranding a lot of people.

The graphics for Charlie Gertz's weather report made me chuckle. 1988 was a long time ago.

Yes Charlie was as old school as they came. Always heard he resisted more modern electronic weather boards at the time and stuck with the tried and true.

my junior year at historic Goose creek high school.

A hurricane Hugo came through and messed a lot of stuff up. We were back in school in like 35 mins.

Later that year we had 0.5 inches of snow.. Didn't go back to school for like 8 weeks. No1 wanted to take any chances with that crazy white stuff sent by the debil.

This brings back bad memories. My wife's birthday is on 1/8 and we had only been married 1.5 years at that point. I had not bought her birthday present yet because, like most guys, I put it off till the last minute. Needless to say, all of the stores were shutdown due to the storm on the 7th. That excuse didn't go over very well with the wife. It took weeks to get out of the doghouse on that one. I learned a very valuable lesson from that, I buy her birthday present when I get her Christmas present since then and have it ready to go way ahead of time.

Snowfall was Jan 7 or over night beginning late on the sixth. Youngest daughter was born afternoon of the sixth so wasn't able to visit again till the 8th. Had a four and half and two year old to keep or would've tried on the 7th. Think it was 12 or so inches in our area north of Charlotte.

My son was born on 1/2/02 in Columbia, SC. We were scheduled for a C section at 9:00am. They started right on time, and almost the moment he was born it started snowing. They sent home all but the most essential personnel. It was really strange being in a hospital with almost no one there, but it was peaceful and everything went great. My snow baby... Who else can say that in South Carolina?

Got about 10" of snow, with strong winds, in Spartanburg and it was pretty cold for several days, too.

I live here in S.C. because there is very, very little snow. I do, however, do like to see it about every 5 or 6 years. Just a little bit.

I think it was 1971 or 1972... I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade. Best snow ever in the Lexington, SC area. We measured 15" of good snow. That was a 9 or 10 year old's dream, no school for a week and plenty of snow for sledding, snowball fights, fort building, and playing war.
