Reason they gave for retiring the "Crusader" name/mascot was b/c hate groups had embraced the use of the Crusader moniker.
There's been handful of schools that have moved away from using Crusader name since early 2000s b/c of the Valpo reasoning or b/c of the negative perceptions of the name in today's world.

Their fight song used to be Victory in Jesus. It was also their only stand music for a period of time for football games (I’m not kidding, they legit played it for everything, even when there was a flag on the opposing team lol). If it still is the fight song, it’ll be interesting to see if they change it as well.

Virtually every university in the USA began as a seminary or with some sort of religious affiliation, even Harvard, Yale, etc. They have all, one by one, kicked God off campus and out of daily life. The goings on at NGC are just a sign of the secular shift of the country. Sad.
