Ship has ball protection issues which can also be taught, but you can't teach him speed and size.

I seem to remember people thinking that Ray-Ray should come back because, if he put it all together, he could have been a first round pick. In hind-sight, he made a good decision.

pretty wrong IMO, but so be it.
I think he's got a chance to be decent in the pros. I think he'll make a team and may even get drafted. Most teams are RB by committee now and he'll get some 2nd/3rd down playing time at some point.

-Mafah surpassing him this season and being the better RB1 choice? (He was...check stats).
-His over the top ranting and yelling at everyone (including coaches on the sideline) when he doesn't like something being detrimental to team cohesiveness and performance? Check out how much smoother our offense looked in the game he was out. Might not prove me right, but sure doesn't prove me wrong.
-Coaches screwing up when they chose Ship for goal line power runs instead of Mafah? I hope the KY game is a nice body of evidence for that.

and don't consider the plays/blocking, etc...But I don't think it's worth going point-by-point.
He left in very good standing...played in the bowl game and I doubt we win it without his big return at the end...and I hope he does well in the NFL. Hopefully one of the younger guys will step up next year and we won't miss him as much as I fear we might.

Of course we did to start the season and he fumbled at the 1.
But also, if Shipley is a better passing threat and blocker, then that's why he was the #1 back. He had a bad year compared to last year.

See Mafah's blocking as being suspect. In fact, in the Gator Bowl, he was outright blowing fools up with blocks.
I think 100% that Shipley was head and shoulders better than Mafah prior to this season. Mafah really turned a corner this past off season, and in the spirit of admitting being wrong, perhaps I owe CJ some credit for developing him so well. I also think that fact (him being better before this season) is the only reason Ship was RB1 this season, because the on-field play just didn't merit it.
