This team does not have elite speed. Especially on defense and most of the wrs. And to be quite honest as great as they are, Mafah and Shipley routinely get walked down as well. Team speed is a huge glaring difference from our championship teams. This sucks. You can't coach speed.

Didn’t Dabo say this was his fastest team? Are we getting to the point where you can translate his words to actually mean the opposite of what he is saying? There was a poster that called out the team speed on defense within the first few plays of the game. Props to him.

It was more the angles they were taking for me rather than the lack of speed on D.

WR getting open isn’t all on speed, it also has a lot to do with route running!

That's true. We were out of position over and over as well, at all defensive positions. And Duke's dbs were playing way back and weren't gonna let anything behind them. I hope this is fixable and not just a slow slow team.

I think in the past...

Even if our guys were out of position, they were fast enough to make up for it. That's the thing about the portal, like it or not it really has brought parity.

Not playing with confidence will slow them down too

With the defense I think that’s the biggest issue. I didn’t see any corners get straight out ran down the field. Even on good teams in the past the line had to get to the QB quickly or the corners would get out ran. The LB’s minus Woodazz looked slow. Carter looks like he put on way to much weight. They did the same thing with Simpson last year and we saw he lost a step and wasn’t as impactful last year. Over pursuing too was a big problem. They had Reilly several times and just ran past him because of a poor angle plus those swing passes.

Now the WR’d are like sloths. I think Randall is just slow. I was hoping it was the knee last year but he’s just slow, he was def mis evaluated in recruiting. Collins is meh, he’s a back up, Spector is slow everyone has seen that, Williams looked fast and Brown looked good, I don’t think he’s jacoby ford speed I think he just has real D1 WR speed and the others are slow so it seems faster. Turner is fast but he’s raw, I think he’s what stellato was supposed to be if he didn’t stay injured.

Shipley to me looked faster than last year. Is he going to break away? No, but Gallman wasn’t a sprinter either and did fine. Mafah seems slow but doesn’t get a chance to really show it all his runs are into the interior.
