as Gen Z?
https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-workers-shocked-by-nine-to-five-work-schedule-2023-11
I get that every generation has their own set of unique problems... But holy cow - these whiny, "woe is me - what do you mean I gotta work 40 hours a week" Gen Z's are really bringing a whole new meaning to #firstworldproblems...
Now get off my lawn you lazy, good for nothing kids....

Life gets getting easier and more convenient. Barring a WW2 type of scenario, it seems natural generations would keep getting softer.
I remember how hard it was to get #### back in the day!1!!!1

is 95% of the time a joke and a complete waste of time.
For instance, I know a guy making about $300k gross as a junior partner who spends 20hrs/week assisting his stay-at-home wife with her "small business" which generates about $15k a year.

Not only soft, but dumb as ###. I blame parents for leaving their kids to be raised by the NEA and social media.

I think the bigger thing is they're asking why
Nov 17, 2023, 1:56 PM
|
|
Why do we have to work 9-5? Why do we have to commute? Why is our health insurance tied to our job? Etc. Etc. I think part of this is younger generations have figured out that stuff like you need to go to a 4 year university if you're smart was all bs so now they're questioning everything.

I've always approached SS as if I will never see one dime of it.

Here's a gigantic newsflash for ya. Your parents said this about your generation. Your grandparents said it about your parents' generation. They had it said to them by *their* parents' generation. *they* had it said to *them* by their parents generation, and so it goes, back and back and back to the beginning of civilization. This is not a new thought. It's also not accurate.

Both of my kids (23,21) didn't have to search for a job out of college.
Daughter was recruited to an engineering firm while a 2nd semester senior. The 'cruiter said the fact that she had worked consistently since she was 16 impressed them, along with her work references.
And son who is graduating in Dec. was offered a sales position by a guy he cold called on Memorial Day and sold a solar system to while he was doing his internship. Son and his intern cohort from Charleston Southern were the top performing group company-wide and they asked them to do a recruiting video. I told him, "that's resume gold right there, boy."
And no nose rings, so that's a plus.

LOL at example of worker they used....

Up at 7am. In to work at 10am. Works until 7pm. Asleep by 11pm.
So she sleeps 8 hours a night. That's 1/3 of her day. She works 9 hours total. Figure with lunch and breaks, it's 8 hours. That's 1/3 of her day. She ##### around for 3 hours in the morning, 4 hours at night. Add in her 1 hour lunch/break, and that's 1/3 of her day.
Sounds like a pretty good balance to me. 8 hours of sleep tells me she doesn't have kids. Good ####### luck if you decide to have kids. Your awful 8 hours of sleep will be a distance memory.

capable, and in may ways much smarter than I was at their age, but in some ways they seem incredibly naive. It seems that many things that I took for granted or understood since I was a toddler, have never occurred to them by their mid/late 20s. My kids have always worked, since high school, in some job or another, however. Having said that, it's obvious how much the world and times they've grown up in have influenced and shaped them, vs. what their mom and I "taught" them. It's true with every generation.

They are the children of their parents. Kids of that generation have been raised to be overgrown toddlers by their parents. They question working 9-5 not because of any great philosophical quest about the meaning of life, but because they've been handed everything and never had to put down their phone or video game controller for anything other than to get patted on the head for not being a criminal, which is about all it takes these days. The concept of doing something you don't particularly enjoy for 40 hours a week to pay their own bills is as foreign a concept to them as doing absolutely nothing and expecting others to pay for everything is to the rest of us.

Hard to say but in my bubble I have to say I’m impressed with the kids I know. I have 4 grandkids from late teens to early 20s. All of them have incredible work ethic. I know several young people at church that age who also have amazing character and work ethic. I think we see the fruitcakes on the Ivy League campuses and ten to think all kids are as pathetic as them. Not true.
