Whatever your opinion is on illegal immigration, it is a problem because it needs to be a problem. The numbers we all get pumping the economy, the numbers cloak something else. When you hear about Biden flying in illegals, the reason is not to gain dem voters. It's not to import drug dealers and rapists and human traffickers. It's the economy stupid. Every rosy economic number Biden brings up, is rosy because of a foreign worker.

This isn't just an American problem. Much of the EU is either facing a recession or they're in one. They are importing immigrants as well at record numbers. Heck, the middle east imports workers. There is no other way a place like Dubai could look the way it looks without imported labor. Most in the middle east comes from India. Most immigrants in Europe are from Africa and the Middle East. Without the influx of immigrants the US would be in a recession. The countries in Europe that are in recessions are those with less ability to import or attract immigrant labor.

Our politics are a diversion to distract us. To hide the forest by only talking about trees.

In just February, 1.2 million immigrants (legal and illegal) gained a job. Meanwhile, 500k native-born Americans LOST their job.

Since Covid, native-born workers have actually LOST 2 million jobs. All of the net job gains are immigrants.

We have a 3.9% unemployment rate. Still technically considered "full employment".

Where do you propose we get these folks?

Please note my "excess retirement" chart below as well, for a bit more context.

Boomers retiring is the biggest factor in our decade-long decline in labor participation.

Many are retiring, deciding the juice isn’t worth the squeeze, which, in a well-enforced immigration environment, would require employers raising wages to lure them back or to stay. It’s one example of illegals stagnating wages across the board.

Additionally, that’s 20% of the eligible workforce. That leaves 18%, or about 60 million people to fill the remaining 9M jobs. I’m guessing all 60M aren’t students or invalids, and again, even if many were students, better paying jobs would entice many to jump right into the workforce.

It would cause inflation for sure, but it would also create across the board wage increases for American citizens. The Dems aren’t doing it to fill labor, they’re doing it to keep wages suppressed, because as I’ve said for a while, it’s quite literally just about the only lever they have left to avoid even further inflation.

Our prime age (25-54) employment is as high as it's been in decades, and fully recovered from the pandemic.

In terms of jobs & employment, we had a very strong recovery from the pandemic. People don't like it. They won't admit it. After all, we have a guy with Dementia that loves illegal immigrant muslim terrorists or something like that. ANd we need to get Trump re-elected to stop soshulizm. But Biden's policies did give us a very strong & quick recovery, whether you like it or not.

Hmmm.... that sounds a lot like that replacement theory stuff to me that the credentialed educated class say "isn't happening and it's all conspiracy garbage".

Here's the truth of the matter... There are enough foreigners (of all labor types) wanting to come to the USA that we could stop the mass illegal flow chaos along our Southern border. There is no real reason we can't establish a legal immigration policy/system (from guest workers to legal residents etc...) to meet the labor demands through a controlled LEGAL immigration system.

We are not doing a controlled method of meeting our immigrant labor needs because the Democrats and complicit Republican Inc. elites apparently want the uncontrolled chaos at our border. Illegal immigrant labor doesn't raise a stink about getting paid low wages and certainly ain't gonna unionize and drive up costs - even though that will probably be the next thing to come out of California ("undocumented labor unions") and that makes the big money donors happy.

PS... as a generalization, maybe if US society got back to a place where our younger generations were taught that all work is "useful", "worthwhile" and "honorable" instead of denigrating manual labor jobs as "beneath us" we wouldn't have such a need for some immigrant labor in the future.

(ie. we are at a 62% labor participation rate) there are undoubtedly a lot of able bodied folks choosing not to work. Why?? Somehow they are able to still get money to survive/thrive without working (I seriously doubt the 38% of the not-in-the-labor-force working age folks are early retirees)

We've been on a steady decline in working age folks actually working since 2004 (maybe even longer) and it seems to be something in the way we (US society) have raised generations to view "work".

At what point as a society do we finally turn back to an attitude that it is shameful for able bodied working age folks to not work and contribute to our society (and tax base) when work of all types is available. There is honor and dignity in work (including the manual labor jobs) and somewhere it seems we have been losing this ethic more and more with every successive generation of Americans.

deciding not to work and get gubmint cheese. That would be a fixable problem so that's a preferable theory. More palatable. More "spinnable" politically as well.

The truth is seen in excess "retirements". The pandemic did two things. It hastened several million baby boomers into choosing to retire, exacerbating a problem we already knew was approaching and was actually occurring for a decade before the pandemic. The other aspect is the overall decline in health of workers, and the decline in the healthcare system also contributing. Historically, health was the reason we had LPR's in the 50% range during the 1950's, coupled with almost no immigrants.

The boomer retirements were expected to increase, planned to increase, and did increase. But the pandemic sent the US into a situation of "excess" retirements beyond the expected/planned increase that would be brought by boomers. This is the health part of the equation, that wasn't planned for, nor will be admitted as well.

40% of February job growth is in govt & healthcare jobs

Mar 10, 2024, 9:04 PM
Reply

Your original subject post illustrates how big deficit spending can create jobs growth and simultaneously keeping unemployment numbers low.

Unconcerned Americans don’t care that deficit spending is a classic way to distort the economy; these unconcerned Americans are those who benefit from the distortions.

Per Market Insider (Mar. 8, 2024):
Feb job numbers (before the always-downward revisions that have taken place during the Biden admin.: 275K jobs

Here’s my conservative estimate of the upcoming downward revision for Feb; this is based on the original jobs report for Dec + Jan (e.g., 290K jobs) which was revised downward to 229K jobs. Based on this downward revision of 60K jobs for Dec + Jan, the avg monthly downward revision is 30K. Therefore, my estimate for the revised overall jobs number for Feb is 245K jobs.

Sounds great, doesn’t it? Not so fast.

Here’s the number of healthcare and social assistance jobs added in Feb.: 90K. Guess who funds (either directly or indirectly) mother large majority of these jobs? We do, via the taxes that we pay the govt -&- the govt does by printing money (inflationary spending).

And we haven’t even touched upon the growth in federal govt jobs.

Per Government Executive - Feb 2, 2024. “The jobs boom is hitting the federal sector, too”
In Jan 2024, new federal jobs hit a 20 year high for job growth in non-census years. 11,000 new federal jobs were created in January alone. In 2023 overall, ~ 86K new federal govt jobs were created; this works out to ~ 7K new jobs per month.
I’ll use a conservative number for Feb 2024 new federal govt jobs growth at 7K.

(*). Estimate for Taxpayer / deficit spending jobs for Feb. 2024 for govt employee + healthcare & social services jobs = 97K.
(*). Estimated revised overall jobs numbers for Feb. 2024 = 275K - 30K = 245K.

(***). Estimated % of jobs which taxpayers directly fund -&- % of jobs which are funded by deficit spending that distorts the economy and therefore harms Americans who are not on the receiving end of the money from those deficit spending jobs = ~ 40%.

Look behind the numbers. The OBiden Handlers Admin is creating the short term illusion of a great economy while obscuring the catastrophe that America is facing from a weakening currency. As others have posted on TNet, the Federal Reserve no longer fully funds the Treasury in ‘only’ cash. Due to a shortage of overall funds (because the Fed does not want to sell enough T-bonds at rates which are attractive enough for the overall foreign market to be willing to purchase, the Federal Reserve isn’t selling enough T-bonds to raise the cash that is needed to fund the Treasury. Instead, the Fed has issued ‘IOU’s’ to the Treasury to ‘balance out’ the books for what the Treasury was supposed to get.

This is the looming disaster behind those job numbers which have got even the smart Americans fooled by the ‘Bidenomics miracle.’
