So how about the SC GOP and their new pledge?

Jan 27, 2023, 11:00 PM

folks seem to be upset at the provision which bans caucus members from campaigning against one another. I really don't care for this provision myself but what truly angers me I'd the clause calling for absolute silence as to any third party pertaining to anything discussed in meetings. The penalty for non compliance, or refusal to sign, is expulsion from the party.

Anyone got any additional insight?

I do believe very firmly that many of today's Republicans are yesterday's Democrats who switched only because their districts began voting R.

Even trying to do right as a politician is a huge challenge. Most of those people want that brass ring so very bad and there are so many competing parties one surely feels obligations to. But this has a lot to do with who we put up there as well.

As to the agreement. the idea that a rep within a month now his first term has already developed an "us vs. them" mentality applicable to the caucus and the general public means our problems run deep.

It's not just the crossovers. It's the fundamental principle

that Republican voters think they are supporting. The Republican creed talks about individual rights, freedom, etc. The GOP supports none of that.

The GOP is an organization setup to distract anti-government energy away from doing anything meaningful. They get people elected who will put on a display of a fight but then go and feed at the trough of government spending. At the federal level, it's military contracts and other pork spending. At the state level, it is corporate subsidies and land deals. At the local level, it's zoning deals and infrastructure construction deals. All of it is done with the purpose of enriching politically connected entities using stolen money. (taxes, debt spending)

They pretend to fight the Democrats, who are just the outright grow-government party, constantly pushing us toward communism. But even the Democrats (well, the ones in control) know that outright communism is a failure, so they have to maintain an economy resembling a free market even though it's 99% controlled by government. So they use the GOP as a heel to blame on the slowing of "progress". It's just a big shell game and the typical voter has no clue.

How do you figure that? (And I guess I should also ask where you were starting the clock on that switch - the Reagan years or the Trump years or something else altogether.)

Why I ask is that, as a former Republican living in New England, we used to have moderate and even liberal Republicans up here. They have all been drummed out of the party and now New England is deep blue.

The GOP Big Tent is gone.
