Not to beat a dead horse...

2

Sep 25, 2023, 5:01 PM

but this play was yet another head scratcher ... we have 4 guys on 3 and bust the coverage...

Another mental breakdown that cost us 7, 5 mins in the half, 3d and goal from the 7...

I do not know what was supposed to happen but I am certain this was not it... looked like #9 overcommits and Coleman just ran by him. Futile attempt to grab him...

1. At the Snap - with what I think the assignments were

2. Shows the defender (I think it is #9) aggressively attacking Coleman (overcommit), I assume he thinks it is a bubble because nothing else makes sense, Coleman just runs past him into the open space.

3. Shows the lane at the pass, #9 is left in the dust. The Linebacker in the middle is spying FSU #13...

The defense is fine, if you do not have this breakdown by #9 in coverage it's likely 4th and goal (nothing is guaranteed, #13 would have had to make something happen and we had a spy to keep him in check).

FWIW. The 2 other receivers on the side of the field were covered, #17 ran the FSU receiver out the back of the end zone and there were 2 on one in the corner of the end zone on the outside reciever.

#9 was a 4-star that has played well... just broke down on this play, if it was a bubble screen he blows it up..

That is the anatomy of FSU's first TD... nothing the portal fixes, the coverages were there, the execution was the issue ...

Now if someone wants to throw coaching in there it seems fair game to ask how it was coached up, but unless you know what the coaches told the players, you're speculating.

all FSU did was throw the TD over the backup

this was in the 3d quarter Wiggins got hurt in the 4th quarter near the end. This was not over the top of anyone, this was an overcommit by #6 and the receiver just blew by him...

Watched NFL yesterday and seen multiple blown coverages. It happens but that one was bad no doubt about it.

It’s not #6 it’s #9 Mickens. Not that it matters - we play as a team.

#6 has a name, Sheridan Jones and every play is broken down by coaches on every team in the country. The game is over and our players will practice this week.

The player was #9, corrected the original post.. apologies to #6.

The point was obviously lost on you... he (Mickens) is a highly ranked player out of high school, kid rarely makes mistakes and has earned a starting position at strong safety. He over pursued on this play... lesson learned.

portal does not fix this... experience fixes this. He now has the experience.

this is not on Cade or any of the wide receivers or the O-line or D-line or anyone else...

We had several of these single-player breakdowns on key plays...
