Notre Dame TV contract

May 8, 2023, 8:57 AM

I have not seen anything recently on the ND TV contract. I know they were seeking 75 million per season to keep pace. With most of the traditional rivals now in the B1G and them playing a 9 game schedule, will they be able to garantee an appealing schedule to land a big TV contract? I know they can easily get more than the 40M off the ACC's current contract, however with the PAC struggles and playoff byes could the alignment with a conference become more appealing? Yes they can afford it, but no one will want to operate at a 30-40M deficit.

Network greed will never let it happen, but I somehow wish

the networks would all collude and not offer the Irish any contract at all, FORCING them to join a conference. Now, that would be the BIG, of course, not the ACC. Them joining the ACC never made any sense anyway, other than the free BJs they got from Swofford.

For the 2020/21 fiscal year...

May 8, 2023, 9:52 AM

the ACC generated more than $578 million in revenue which was a conference record and an increase of more than $80 million from the previous year.

Notre Dame, which was a full member of the ACC in football in 2020 and shared its home game rights with the rest of the conference, was paid an equal share of $34,889,808 from the conference. This was an increase from the $10.8 million that the Bee Bee Heads received in 2019-20, when they were not a full member in football.

I mention this because is does not appear that ND is receiving more than $40 million annually from the ACC.

Correct ND is currently under 25M with NBC which expires in 2024. Plus 6M from the ACC for the scheduling agreement. The ACC contract should reach about 40 million with full shares of the ACC network under the current deal. The 2020 one year agreement was based on the terms of the existing ACC deal. If ND were to join the contract would be renegotiated. Depending on the 16th school I wouldn’t expect SEC/B1G numbers but likely considerably higher than the current contract.

Based on the current circumstances within the ACC...

(i.e., the overly punitive and inequitable GOR agreement and some schools actively considering an exit strategy), there is NO WAY Notre Dame would even remotely consider joining the ACC as a full member.
