When exactly did law firms go to 100% answering services?

Lawyer schedules a conference call with me. I say I'll call at the appointed time. Fine. Call, get the answering service, atty not available. Call the number in the atty email signature, which is a different number. Get SAME answering service. Atty calls office line, I'm on the road in the car, and leaves a message asking why I haven't called.

She finally calls me on my cell, which was on my email and we spoke. But I explained to her I was to call in and tried but there is no way to reach anyone but the answering service.

Just gets SUPER annoying.

And yes, I tried the paralegal as well. No luck. Think the answering service is trained to say no one is ever available. Who knows.

That sounds like that firm specifically. I’ve worked with several firms and I’ve never had this issue. Remind the attorney you’re the client, and that it’s lame you can’t get in touch with anyone at an appointed time during working hours.

my firm is an AM Law 200 firm and we don't do that

and I'm not aware of other AM Law firms doing it ...but I have encountered it a number of times when attempting to contact colleagues at other firms.

Basically, we are so inundated with spam/marketing calls and spoof/phishing calls that voicemail filtering is the best solution for many.
