O line

ok, so I let it percolate and didn't post until today, giving it at least a night to think about. That said I'm curious if I'm the only one who thinks our offensive line actually got worse this season. Now, maybe it's just growing pains, allowing for them to gel etc, but ummm NO. On NO planet should Furman be stuffing our runs and shedding our pass blocks. While the DJ haters can spout nonsense, those with a more critical eye will see he was under duress all day and actually made sugar out of $h_t! Short week, game film, all that I get for a lot of reasons, but this was the one game on the schedule we should have been able to line up and let the big dogs grind. I counted exactly 2 plays where the line made holes, both resulting in big Shipley runs. Maybe we start seeing some huge improvements, but hopefully it's VERY soon or we are in for a lot of battles.

We're certainly not worse compared to the first 3 games

last year. Struggling some. RT-RG-C all playing new positions or are a new starter. LG was not a full time starter last year.
OL is about all 5 on the same page. We saw plenty of OL's, including Bama struggle yesterday

Bama played Texas on the road. Clemson played Furman at home.
Not the same!

Texas had one of the worst defenses in the country

last year. Our O mailed it in after that first TD in the second half. Prior to that scored TD's on 5 of 6 possessions.

True, but it wasn't from gashing them with big runs. A P5 offensive line against most anyone in FBS should have their D line on roller skates, much less a team with higher aspirations. Heck, SC State was a National Champ last year and we mauled them. I agree it takes time to be cohesive as a unit, but there have been no holes for two weeks now. I say once again, a freshman starting week one on an O line is NEVER good imo. Unless he turns into Orlando Pace, it's an indictment on previous O line development.

against our D line in spring and fall, and all we heard was glowing praise about how great they did and were going to be really good.

I think we only ran the ball well in 2 games last year

Wake and SC. Those two teams finished 110th and 103rd (out of 130) in yards per carry allowed. It may have just been a coincidence that we played those teams late in the season and it gave the illusion that our running game had improved. We certainly didnt run the ball well in the bowl game against Iowa State though we did run it ALOT.

I thought pass blocking was pretty good. Run blocking not so good.

Back in 2 weeks is concerning at this point and yeah I realize what the score was last year. They were very balanced in their road win yesterday in his fist game back.

You are correct in criticism of O line. DJ has actually played pretty solid. O line just hasn’t opened big holes for the backs. Hopefully is just a “gelling process” but it must improve to get where we want.

I am right there as well. Playing our DL should be making these guys tough and salty from going against them daily. The way Furman was able to gain yards on us; i'm wondering if we just sleep walked yesterday. Maybe during practice as well in order for the offense to get confidence.
I think we will get better as the season goes on.
