I understand the massive significance and impact he has had on your program. I could only dream of 2 Natty’s…but with the landscape of college football changing and Dabo’s unwillingness to change his view on the portal and NIL (which could lead to a slip by your standards), shouldn’t fans be or are some fans hopeful that Dabo gets the Bama job?
Again, no flame, sincerely interested to hear your thoughts because the portal and NIL aren’t going away. He doesn’t appear to be a candidate so it’s kind of a moot point. I’ll hang up and listen.

I could care less who goes to Bama. I don’t care who coaches Clemson. I like sports and are rivalry, so I’d like to be able to discuss it.

Dabo uses NIL, and from everything that’s been said, it’s extremely well funded. He takes care of current players first, and then focuses on recruited. Recruits do get NIL offers, which recruits parents claim are competitive, but he isn’t going to get into bidding wars, like with a certain RB recruit who wanted $85k a month.
The portal. I’d like to see him use it, and hopefully that changes, but I don’t think he’s going to guarantee a portal kid a starting spot, and a lot of those kids want a starting spot guaranteed. Having said that, I think going full into the portal like Norvell, is going to eventually cost you in HS recruiting, but we’ll see. I also think it’s not long before you see the pendulum swing the other way, maybe in the form of the 1 time transfer rule going back into effect, or universities treating players like employees and making them sign 4-5 year contracts as part of the LOI. I’ve heard some NIL deals are having “opt out” clauses in them.
Who knows what the future holds, but the current landscape, is not sustainable.

Mo, no Clemson fan wants Dabo to go. I know you do, Beamer does, and the rest of the ACC does. You best worry about your own house, its leaking badly and yall cant afford insurance!

Honestly, I was a little annoyed a couple years ago at Dabo's stubbornness.
But now, I believe that Dabo is ahead of the curve and waiting for the rest of college football to catch up with him. Dabo's philosophy is to use the portal sparingly and use NIL for retention rather than gaining mercenaries. FSU showed us that you can gain mercenaries for a year but they will immediately abandon ship.
I think within the next 3 years we will see the rest of the landscape settle into the same MO. Use the portal sparingly to fill gaps. Use NIL to retain players and reward loyalty. Mercenaries are loyal to no one but highest bidder.

The coot acts like USuC is an example of how the portal and NIL work.
He’s on our board trying to stir up slop, and his team has its best roster in years and still didn’t make a bowl game.
USuC is a great example of how the portal isn’t building programs. At best you hope to nab a top notch receiver and QB, but as seen that doesn’t guarantee a darn thing.

Uses NIL to retain not to recruit - which is actually more in line with the real (by the non-enforced rules) intent of NIL…
I am fine with Dabo’s model…The current NIL/portal situation is not sustainable…
College football will either collapse and return to a more reasonable state or become a professional league…If it becomes a professional league - I don’t care what happens after that - free agency ruined pro sports long ago - and I lost interest …
I am proud of my Clemson degree regardless - it’s served me well…

USC fan or not, I'll be professional and answer your question. I do not wanna see Dabo leave. While he is not Nick Saban, and frankly no one is, what he has done for this program makes him a legend here. In my mind it would be the equivalent of Bobby Cox leaving for the New York Yankees. However, you are also correct about Dabos usage and opinions on NIL and the portal. I agree with him. However, the NIL and portal are not going away, and until changes are made to the system we will need to participate at a deeper level. I do not expect Dabo to leave. Between the status he has achieved here in Tigertown, and the current perceived stretch of substandard football covering the last 3 seasons, I believe Bama will look elsewhere. Does this definitively mean he wont leave? No. I support him and the program, I will also remain critical of the continuous internal coachig hires and offensive scheme, but Dabo has earned the right to stay and I hope he does so.
