Okay this is really weird and crazy, but

Jun 21, 2012, 8:25 AM

should we be hoping that SOME of these lower-level talent or 3-star guys don't commit to us so that we can have room for the elite and 4/5-star talent?

If we just give Dabo time, he's gonna reel in the best of the best.

It's ridiculous that I'm even thinking like that, but sometimes I wish we would've offered less guys because we have a for real shot at getting some of the best talent in the country, but we can't if we've already filled up all 18 spots or whatever...

Thoughts?

Best Is The Standard

There was a report the other day

in which a HS coach said that Clemson is already not accepting commits from some guys. Nice position to be in. It's also a good move not to string them along till signing day.

The top 6-8 guys on our list are oversign guys that we will take regardless of how many spots we have left. We tell players all the time that their offer is no longer commit-able because of the players we have in place or are waiting on. If the player decides to move on that is fine but if they wait a spot may open up closer to signing day. I believe we did this with Byers a few years ago.

Not weird at all. There is a contingency plan in place.

We've already turned down one commit. We need players of particular positions. We offer three or four players for one position or another and take the first commit.

First we fill our needs while saving a couple of scholarships for high ranked players. If we get very deep in a particular position we might give out a couple of red shirts.

I don't pretend to know the ins and outs of recruiting but Clemson seems to have done well the last few years.

I was thinking about this the other day...

We are currently in the lead group for Tyshon Dye and Derrick Green. Both would be great additions to the team, without question. IMO, we need a back with Green's skillset (and size) more than Dye's at this point in time. However, Green has said he will probably wait until NSD to announce while Dye just recently moved up his potential announce date. Green is also aware that the Clemson coaches have said they will probably only take 1 back in this class.

My question is, knowing what he knows, would an early commitment from Dye turn away Green? Would the coaches make the exception for Green (5*) if they landed Dye (4*)?

What do you guys think?
