Did the usc defender not deflect the ball? If so not sure the is grounding?
Would have been 2 and goal f try on 3.

Was not a stupid call. He was clearly throwing it to the ground behind the line of scrimmage. Correct call.

But if the ball doesn't get deflected it hits the ground right in front of the target...would not have called grounding. Bad call.

line of scrimmage? Besides, he was throwing it at the feet of his receiver, but it was deflected by the defender and landed off line and well behind his target.

Read my post again. I said "play call (i.e., Ga's decision to throw the ball)" given a first and goal on the 4 with Gurley, Marshall, that fullback and company.
