Our Basketball team is boring

Like, listening to your “leadership” on a gub’ment contract give a 3 hour lecture on how to wipe your #### boring.
Another TigerNet ! Journalist made the observation that our team basically on most possessions, does the weave at the top of the key for a bit then heaves a brick whereupon, the team runs away to the opposite side of the court in a futile attempt to stop a guy or two having a career day in scoring.
This post could have been copied and pasted from 2013.
Botton line, all Clemson basketball teams degrade to this style of play. All.
We really need a regime change. Different approach. Obviously. Same “stuff” year after year after year …

I’m not going to say anything bad about our team or coaches with this post. But I did observe a heck of a coaching job by Bennett yesterday. Every time he had a timeout he came back and ran a play that scored. Or he made a substitution that worked against us. He is a good coach.

Wait. Why?! Are you invested in this university?! Do you spend your hard earned money trekking to the Valley?! I do! I have a voice because I am an investor. If BrownL was my financial advisor, he’d have been fired a long time ago. You have a a voice and a right to call out things you see that are wrong. I’ve had many arguments with other boosters who felt like you. They wanted to support coaches like Bowden and Hatfield through their mediocrity. If we don’t show displeasure, they will get lifetime jobs and the on court or field product suffers. Calling a spade a spade doesn’t make you a bad fan. It makes you a realist. Must you be reminded the definition of fan which is short for fanatic? Cambridge English Dictionary: “fanatic- a person who is extremely interested in something, to a degree some people find unreasonable.” A fan has unreasonable (in some eyes) passion for their team.

I wouldn't exactly say "boring" is the right word. But that weave eats up the clock without any apparent attempt to get the ball inside until too late in the clock. I think this lets the defense rest with no danger of us shooting - then they know we have to hurry and they intensify their efforts for maybe 10 seconds which is easier to do than having to work for 30. We would do much better if we attack early and get fouls on the big defenders and totally stop shooting 3 pointers, At least stop 18 to 20 a game.

There is a lot happening. Ball screens, off ball screens, cuts, etc.

We are physical and we move the defense. It requires them to do play hard.
We’ve been getting good shots, we just need to make them.

We are also moving our big guys back and forth a lot during that weave and they get open for an entry pass quite often with the guard being out of position to make the pass. Seems like we don't initiate a play to go inside as fast as other teams do.

good shooters, but right now it is not fitting for our two best players, Shef and PJ.
They are adept enough with the ball to distribute or score...our guards...meh.
Go Tigers!

There is a lot happening EXCEPT scoring! That is ineffective coaching.

Shots not dropping are either poor shots or poor shooters. Poor shots are the result of poor coaching. Poor shooters are primarily poor recruiting or poor coaching. Poor recruiting is the result or poor coaching.
However you spin it, Brownell is an ineffective coach who’s ceiling is mediocrity.

There’s no doubt watching this offense is painful. Brad hangs his hat on the Indiana school of defense. That hasn’t happened in a while. Three man weave is grammar school stuff. Not an offensive set. We have maybe two legit three point shooters. One hasn’t seen the floor. We need a point guard that manufactures shots for PJ on the block or shooters open on the floor. Girard is the only 3 point shooter with the green light. He is top 9 all-time in made threes for a reason. We have the pieces but they aren’t being used right.

It's boring because Brad can't coach offense. He never has. Our best year was when we had 3 guards that could shoot and just fired off shots. He's a horrid coach. I really really would love to be a fly on the wall as to why ADs don't even try in men's basketball. If they didn't care about tennis, I'd get it; tennis isn't on TV. But the bad reputation Clemson Univ gets from national TV every season of Brad, seems like something normal ADs would care about.

Oh wait, that may be backwards.
It wasn’t fun paying $200 in Clemson only to see Jack Clark heave a shot from deep when only down by one in the closing seconds. I mean I know that wasn’t the called play, but geez basketball IQ isn’t a strong suit of Brownell teams. We have always been terrible in end-of-game situations. I always see that video of Brad whiffing on his teams final shot for the winner when he was at Depauw.
Cool dude. But he’s not the man for the job. And those talking about our “history” as a tangible reason Brad can’t get it down are pitiful excuse makers.
