OK - is it just me or does anyone else feel/wonder about this: Listening to the announcers, the media, the players, and everyone else you would think our defense has figured it all out and is ready to start taking on the world. Well, at least you would gather they are improving and much better than 2 weeks ago.
- However, I seem to remember a Clemson defense that seemed MUCH improved last year both times they played VT, only to come up short again against other teams. Could it be we just have had VT's number lately? Thoughts?
The defense shut down GT when it had to in the second half and pretty much saved us in that game too . I think we're young up front and getting better. I hope we have enough depth in the secondary to get over Robinson's injury !!
Itwould seem that we have had VT's # the past two yrs BUT I want to think they are making steady progress. Blown coverages & players being out of position are becoming less of a factor. Tackling seems to be improving but still has to improve. I like starting Spencer Shuey in the middle. He brings an attitude and lots of energy. Watching him Sat he seemed to be constantly moving the down linemen around on D and they seemed to be in position more as L Thomas only broke free a couple of times and we did a good job vs the run. My thoughts is that these young players were so much better than their competition in High School they feel that they need to make every play and at times don't stay in their area. For this defense to work, every player must understant that they are responsible for an area and need to protect that area at all costs. If all players are in their positions, plays will be made. I look at Sat and the 2nd halves of the BC & GaT games to think they are getting better. People need to give our coaches the time to develop these kids & I think we can have a good defense for a long time since we have so many frosh & sophs on this team.
